Blinds & Curtains Fitting across the West Midlands

Blind fitting fails in predictable ways: the blind fouls the window handle, the bracket is screwed into a plastic reveal that will not hold it, or a bay window's angles are treated as if they were 90 degrees. All three are avoidable by measuring properly and choosing the fixing point deliberately.

We fit inside or outside the reveal depending on your handles, trickle vents and the blind's stack height, fix into the lintel or the frame timber rather than into hollow uPVC, and check the drop and clearance before a single hole is made.

Curtain poles and tracks bring their own load question — a lined pair of curtains on a wide bay is a serious weight, so brackets go into the lintel or into properly fixed timber, never into the plaster of a reveal edge.

Window fitting in this region is decided by the window, and the West Midlands has an unusual spread of them: Victorian bays with deep splayed reveals, 1930s metal Crittall frames, 1960s concrete-lintel openings and modern uPVC with barely 60mm of plaster to fix into.

We measure to the fitting method rather than the nominal opening — recess or face fit, top or side fix, lintel or reveal — and drill knowing what is behind. Above a window is exactly where a steel lintel, a cavity closer or a trickle-vent housing sits, and hitting one of those with a curtain-track screw is a bad afternoon.

How it works in the West Midlands

  1. Step 1

    Send us the details

Tell us the number of rooms, what matters most and how we get in. Access quirks in the West Midlands are worth mentioning now: they change the time on site more than the floor area does.

  2. Step 2

    We price it in writing

You get a written figure for blinds & curtains fitting, itemised, normally within a few hours. No survey fee, and no surcharge for travelling to the West Midlands.

  3. Step 3

    Pick your slot

Choose a morning or afternoon window. We plan around the West Midlands traffic and parking so the crew arrives inside it.

  4. Step 4

    Job done and checked

The team works to the agreed spec, walks the finished work with you and only closes the job once you're happy. Anything missed, we come back.

What's included

  • Measured and set out first

Handles, trickle vents, stack height and drop all checked before drilling, so the blind clears everything it needs to.

  • Fixed into something solid

Lintel, frame timber or masonry — never into hollow uPVC trim or the crumbling edge of a reveal.

  • Bays and angles handled

Bay poles bent or angle-jointed to the real angle of your window, not the assumed one.

  • Child-safety compliant

Chain restraints and breakaway devices fitted to current safety standards on every corded blind.

  • Heavy curtain support

Poles and tracks bracketed for lined and interlined curtains, with intermediate supports on wide runs.

  • Multiple rooms in one visit

A whole house of blinds is a half or full day and far cheaper than room-by-room bookings.

  • Bay poles jointed to the real angles

Angles taken on site and the pole bent or jointed to them, rather than forced from a standard kit.

  • Child-safety compliance

Cord cleats, chain breakers and tensioners fitted to BS EN 13120 as standard on every corded blind.

Local knowledge that changes the job

Bay windows, the region's default front room

Bay-fronted Edwardian and interwar housing is the dominant style across Kings Heath, Erdington, Bearwood, Wednesfield, Stirchley and much of Coventry, and almost none of those bays are the textbook 45 or 90 degrees. Older houses have settled, and a pole cut to a nominal angle will not sit against the wall.

We measure the actual angles on site and use bendable or jointed bay poles set to them. On a three-sided bay with heavy lined curtains we also add an intermediate bracket per section, because the pole will bow within a season otherwise.

uPVC replacements in period reveals

Most of the region's period housing now has replacement uPVC windows fitted into the original masonry reveal, which leaves a hollow trim and packers where you would expect solid timber. A bracket screwed into that trim pulls out under a loaded blind.

We locate the frame reinforcement or fix back to the lintel above, and on stone or blue-brick reveals in the Black Country we drill the mortar line rather than the hard engineering brick face, which is far kinder to both the bit and the wall.

Victorian and Edwardian bays

Square bays, canted bays and the shallow splay bay are all common across Moseley, Kings Heath, Harborne, Leamington and the older Coventry suburbs, and almost none of them are the tidy angles a bay-pole kit assumes. A canted bay that reads as 45 degrees is frequently 38 on one side and 52 on the other after a century of settlement.

We take the angles on site with a bevel, then bend or joint the pole to those figures. A forced kit is the reason bay curtains snag at the corner and refuse to draw fully, and it is not fixable with more rings.

Crittall windows and 1930s steel frames

Interwar semis across Erdington, Bearwood, Wednesfield and Coventry frequently still carry their original Crittall steel frames, with almost no timber and a very shallow reveal. Drilling the frame is possible but usually the wrong call — it breaches the galvanising and lets rust in.

Those windows are face-fixed into the surrounding masonry above the opening instead, on brackets projected far enough to clear the frame's opening light. Perfect-fit blinds, which clip to uPVC beading, are not an option there and we will say so before you order them.

What is above the window in a new-build

On the Dickens Heath, Monkspath, Longbridge and Warwickshire new-build estates the plasterboard above a window is often only a thin skin over a cavity closer, with a steel or concrete lintel behind and a trickle-vent housing in the frame head. There is very little safe fixing depth.

We detect before drilling and fix into the lintel with the correct masonry anchor, or extend the bracket down to a solid line. A track pulled out of new-build board takes a fist-sized piece of the ceiling angle with it, so this is not the place to guess.

Before you book

What to have ready for your Blinds & Curtains Fitting job

Number of windows, blind or curtain, and whether any are bays. Bay angles are the West Midlands speciality problem.

Have this ready — Windows, product type and any bays — and the quote comes back with a firm price rather than a range.

Weekday replies land within one working hour. Nothing is booked and no deposit is taken until the price is confirmed in writing.

  1. 1Count the windows and the bays separatelyA bay takes roughly three times a flat window to set out.
  2. 2Decide recess or face fitDeep Victorian reveals suit recess; steel-framed Crittall windows usually need face fixing.
  3. 3Check what's above the windowLintel, masonry or stud decides the fixing — never the plaster alone.
  4. 4Have the products on siteOr ask us to measure first and order — safer on bays and awkward reveals.

When the job is a move, not a fixing

Plenty of blinds & curtains fitting enquiries start as something else — a house move, a store collection or an office change. These pages price that side of the work properly rather than squeezing it into an hourly handyman slot.

Every removal service we run in the region is listed on West Midlands moving services, and the fixing side sits on West Midlands handyman services.

Most jobs in the region touch more than one trade — a tenancy clean before a move, an assembly visit after a delivery, or an office contract that needs both. These hubs price each side properly.

Blinds & curtains fitting is only worth booking if the crew turns up, prices honestly and finishes the spec. These are the commitments we hold ourselves to in the West Midlands.

You get the blinds & curtains fitting price in writing before we start. Access, stair turns and parking are priced in up front, not added afterwards.

  • Local scheduling, not a call centre

  • Re-do guarantee

If anything on the blinds & curtains fitting spec is missed, we come back and put it right at no extra cost — that is the whole guarantee.

  • One team for the whole property

Cleaning, moving, handyman and clearance all run from the same the West Midlands scheduling desk, so a multi-part job needs one booking.

Blinds & Curtains Fitting in the West Midlands — FAQs

Q1.How much does blind fitting cost?

A single blind starts at £45 with additional blinds in the same visit from £20 each. A curtain pole or track is from £55, and a bay window pole from £120 because the angles have to be set to your actual bay.

Q2.Can you fit blinds to uPVC windows without drilling the frame?

In many cases yes — perfect-fit and no-drill brackets clip to the glazing bead on suitable frames. Where the blind is heavy or the bead will not take it, we fix to the lintel above the reveal instead.

Q3.Do you fit curtain poles in bay windows?

Yes. We measure the real angles of your bay, which in the region's settled period housing are rarely the nominal ones, and use bendable or jointed poles with intermediate brackets on each section.

Q4.Are your fittings child-safe?

Yes. Every corded blind is fitted with the chain restraint or breakaway device required by current child-safety standards, secured to the wall as part of the job.

Q5.Can you fit a whole house of blinds in one visit?

Usually yes — a typical three-bed house is a half to full day, and it costs far less than booking room by room because there is a single call-out and a single minimum charge.

Q6.Can you fit curtains in a bay window?

Yes, from £120. We take the real angles on site with a bevel and bend or joint the pole to them — canted bays in the region's Victorian housing are rarely the neat 45 degrees a standard kit assumes, and a forced kit is why bay curtains snag at the corner.

Q7.Can you fit blinds to Crittall steel windows?

We face-fix into the masonry above rather than drilling the steel, which would breach the galvanising and start rust. Perfect-fit blinds that clip into uPVC beading will not work on Crittall, and we will tell you that before you order.

Q8.Do you fit motorised blinds?

Yes, from £110 including pairing and setting up the remote or app. Where a hard-wired supply is needed we specify it and coordinate with an electrician rather than improvising a spur.

Q9.Are your blinds child-safe?

Every corded blind we fit gets a cleat, chain breaker or tensioner to BS EN 13120 as standard, fitted at the required height — it is not an optional extra and we do not leave a loose cord behind.
