Carpet Cleaning across the West Midlands

Most disappointing carpet cleaning fails at the same point: not enough pre-spray dwell time and not enough extraction. Water goes in, dirt is loosened, and then too much of it is left in the backing — which is why the carpet looks good on the day and grey again three weeks later as the residue wicks back to the surface.

We work the other way round. The carpet is dry-vacuumed thoroughly first, pre-sprayed and given real dwell time, agitated with a pile brush or rotary where the fibre allows, then extracted with far more suction passes than solution passes. Turbo dryers follow, so most rooms are walkable within about two hours.

Fibre identification comes first because it changes everything. Wool — common in the Bournville, Moseley and Sutton Coldfield period stock — is protein and will felt, shrink or yellow under high-alkaline product. Polypropylene, standard in rental and new-build carpet across the region, tolerates stronger chemistry but holds oily soiling in traffic lanes. We test and treat accordingly.

Pet odour, coffee, red wine, curry, hair dye and print-transfer marks all get spot treatment before the main clean, and we tell you honestly which marks are stains rather than soiling. A dye stain has changed the fibre colour and no amount of extraction reverses it — a good clean will not fix it and we will say so before you pay.

How to book

How to book carpet cleaning in the West Midlands

  1. Step 1

Tell us the rooms and the fibre if you know it

Room count, stairs, any pet areas and photographs of specific marks so we can set realistic expectations before arriving.

  2. Step 2

    Fixed price, no surprises

Priced per room with spot and odour treatments listed separately, agreed before the machine comes off the van.

  3. Step 3

    Test, pre-spray, dwell, extract

Fibre and colour test, deep dry vacuum, pre-spray with real dwell time, agitation to suit the pile, then high-suction extraction.

  4. Step 4

Dryers on, walk on it in two hours

Air removals crew run through the job. We walk the rooms with you and point out anything that was stain rather than soiling.

What's included

  • Fibre and colour-fastness test

Wool, wool-mix, polypropylene or nylon identified and a colour test done in a hidden corner before any product goes down.

  • Deep dry vacuum first

A slow, multi-directional dry pass removes grit and hair — the step that most affects the final result and the one most often skipped.

  • Pre-spray with real dwell

Traffic lanes pre-sprayed and left to work rather than immediately extracted, so soiling releases instead of being pushed deeper.

  • Agitation matched to the pile

Pile brush or rotary where the fibre allows, hand agitation on delicate wool and loop pile.

  • High-suction extraction

More dry passes than wet passes, so the backing is not left saturated and residue cannot wick back.

  • Spot and odour treatment

Pet accidents treated at backing level with enzyme product, plus targeted work on wine, coffee, curry and grease.

  • Turbo drying

Air removals crew left running through the clean so rooms are walkable in around two hours and fully dry the same day.

  • Honest stain assessment

Permanent dye damage identified up front rather than after payment, with realistic expectations set room by room.

Local knowledge that changes the job

Soft water and wool carpet

Birmingham's Elan Valley supply is exceptionally soft, and soft water plus a standard alkaline pre-spray is the fastest way to yellow a wool carpet. Wool needs slightly acidic chemistry and a controlled rinse; on the region's soft supply we run an acid rinse as standard on all wool and wool-mix work.

Coventry and eastern Warwickshire run harder, which brings the opposite risk — mineral residue drying as a stiff, dull hand in the pile. Those jobs get a softened rinse instead. Same machine, different chemistry, decided by postcode.

Traffic film in the region's terraced streets

Houses fronting the A4123, the A45, the Coventry ring road and the Hagley Road pick up an oily black particulate that walks straight into the hallway carpet. It looks like general greying but it is greasy, and water-only extraction lifts almost none of it.

Those hallways get a solvent-boosted pre-spray and a longer dwell before extraction. It is the single most visible improvement we make in the region's terraced stock — the difference between a hall that looks cleaned and one that looks replaced.

Student lets, HMOs and end of tenancy carpets

Selly Oak, Bournbrook, Stoke and Earlsdon HMO carpets are usually polypropylene, heavily traffic-lined and frequently marked with hair dye, fake tan and print transfer. Polypropylene takes strong chemistry but bleaches easily, so we spot-test every mark before treating it.

For check-out purposes we invoice the carpet clean as a separate, dated, receipted line, because tenancy agreements in those postcodes routinely require documented professional carpet cleaning and a combined invoice gets challenged by clerks.

Drying times in old and new stock

Solid-floor Victorian and Edwardian houses in Bearwood, Balsall Heath and Small Heath dry slowly in winter because the slab stays cold and there is often no underlay membrane. We reduce the solution rate, add extraction passes and leave air movers running longer in those homes.

New-builds in Solihull, Dickens Heath and Whitnash dry fastest but need a different caution: engineered oak or laminate on the landing edge will lift if water tracks off the carpet at the threshold, so we protect and hand-tool the last 200mm rather than running the wand up to the trim.

Carpet Cleaning in the West Midlands — FAQs

Q1.How much is carpet cleaning in the West Midlands?

From £30 for a single room, £80 for three rooms, £140 for a typical three-bed house and £35 for stairs and landing. Pet odour treatment is £25 per area and stain protector is £8 per m².

Q2.How long do carpets take to dry?

Rooms are usually walkable in about two hours and fully dry the same day, because we run more extraction passes than wet passes and leave turbo dryers going. Solid-floor period houses in winter take longer, and we plan for that.

Q3.Can you clean wool carpets safely?

Yes, and it needs different chemistry. Wool is a protein fibre that yellows and felts under strong alkaline product, so we use wool-safe chemistry with an acid rinse — particularly important on Birmingham's very soft water supply.

Q4.Will you remove pet smells?

In most cases. Pet odour lives in the backing and the underlay, not the pile, so we apply enzyme treatment at backing level. Where urine has soaked through into the floor, cleaning reduces it but replacing the underlay is the only complete fix, and we will tell you if that is the situation.

Q5.Do you remove all stains?

We remove soiling reliably. A true stain has dyed the fibre — bleach marks, hair dye, some inks and older red wine — and no cleaning process reverses that. We identify those before we start so you are not paying in hope.

Q6.Do you clean stairs?

Yes, and they are hand-tooled on the risers rather than run over with a wand. Stairs carry the heaviest soiling per square metre in most homes and they need the extra time.

Q7.Is this suitable for an end of tenancy?

Yes, and we invoice it as a separate dated line so it satisfies tenancy clauses requiring documented professional carpet cleaning. We schedule it to finish after the main clean so nothing is walked back in.

Q8.Should I have stain protector reapplied?

Worth it on new wool and in family hallways, because it buys you time to blot spills before they bond. It is not worth it on a carpet already close to replacement, and we will say so.
