The service
Cleaning the fabric, not just the surface
Most of what makes a sofa look tired is not one visible stain — it is body oil, skin cells, hair and airborne kitchen grease worked into the pile by three years of sitting in the same seat. That soil binds to the fibre, dulls the colour and holds odour, and a hired supermarket machine tends to push it deeper and leave the foam wet for two days. Our technicians work the other way round: identify the fibre and the cleaning code, test in a hidden panel, pre-spray a solution matched to the fabric, agitate with a soft brush so the chemistry reaches the soil rather than sitting on top of it, then lift both the solution and the loosened soil out with a hand tool. Water-sensitive fabrics — viscose, silk blends, some linens and anything coded S — are cleaned with a solvent or low-moisture system instead, and leather is cleaned and fed rather than extracted at all.

How it works
Three steps and a price that holds
Fibre and code check
We check the manufacturer's cleaning code label and identify the fibre, then test a hidden panel for colour-fastness before anything wet touches the piece.
Dry soil removal
A HEPA vacuum pass with a crevice tool lifts grit, hair and crumbs out of the seams and under the cushions. Wet cleaning over dry soil just makes mud.
Pre-spray and agitation
A fabric-matched pre-spray goes on and is worked in with a soft upholstery brush, then given dwell time so it breaks down body oil and grease properly.
Extraction or low-moisture clean
Hot-water extraction with a hand tool for cotton, polyester and most weaves; a solvent or encapsulation clean for viscose, silk blends and S-coded fabrics.
Spot work and deodorising
Remaining marks get targeted treatment, then an enzyme deodoriser for pet or food odour, applied to the fabric rather than sprayed into the air.
Grooming and air movement
Pile groomed straight and an air mover left running on the piece so it dries evenly. We tell you honestly when it will be safe to sit on.

Sofas, mattresses and the fabrics that need a different method what to expect
Upholstery is not one material, and that is why a single price list and a single machine never works. A polyester weave on a modern three-seater is forgiving: it takes hot-water extraction, dries in a couple of hours and comes back several shades brighter. A cotton or linen blend needs less water and more care, because over-wetting the cushion cover shrinks it against the foam. Viscose — sold as 'art silk' on a lot of imported sofas — turns yellow and stiff if it is wet-cleaned at all, so it gets a solvent or low-moisture treatment. Leather is not cleaned, it is washed with a pH-balanced product and then fed, otherwise the finish dries out and cracks along the seat edges. Mattresses are a different job again: the aim there is dust mite allergen, sweat salts and odour rather than visible marks, so the emphasis is on the vacuum pass, an enzyme treatment and getting the moisture straight back out so you can sleep on it that night. We tell you which category your piece is in before we start, and if the honest answer is that the fabric will not improve enough to be worth the money, we say that instead of taking the booking.
