Cleaning, moving, handyman & clearance in East Sussex

East Sussex is two administrative systems in one county, and the difference decides how a job is run. Brighton and Hove is a unitary authority: it sets its own parking, its own bulky-waste collections and runs its own household waste site at Hollingdean. The rest of the county is two-tier — East Sussex County Council handles waste disposal through permit-controlled sites, while Lewes, Rother, Wealden, Eastbourne and Hastings each set parking and collections locally. A crew that treats "East Sussex" as one place gets the permit wrong, so we route work by authority rather than by the address line.

Hello Services cleaning team standing with their branded van, extraction machine and colour-coded cleaning kit

End of tenancy, deep cleans, carpets and ovens — for tenants, landlords and busy households.

End-of-tenancy, deep, after-builders and regular cleaning across Brighton's conversion-flat rental belt, Eastbourne and Bexhill's managed blocks and the Wealden family-home stock, with a 24-hour re-clean guarantee.

Hello Services removals crew standing at the tail lift of a loaded Luton van on a house removal job

Man with a van and full house removals, local or long distance, with no hidden mileage charges.

House removals, man with a van, office moves and packing across the county, quoted on volume and real access — including Brighton bay suspensions, Hastings twittens and the A27 pinch points at Lewes and Polegate.

Hello Services handymen in branded orange uniform assembling flat-pack furniture while a colleague mounts a TV on the wall

Flat-pack and furniture assembly, TV mounting, shelving and the small repairs that stack up.

Furniture assembly, TV mounting, shelving, hanging and small repairs, priced by the job and the fixing — with the wall tested first, because older Brighton and Hastings property will not hold a standard plug.

Hello Services clearance van with the ramp down as two crew members load bagged and sorted waste for recycling

Licensed rubbish removal, house and garage clearances, with a waste transfer note supplied.

House, flat, garage, garden and probate clearance by registered waste carriers, priced on the volume actually filled, with a waste transfer note on every job.

Working across East Sussex

The property is just as split. The coast runs from Brighton's Regency and Victorian conversion flats through Eastbourne's planned Victorian avenues and purpose-built retirement blocks to Hastings' Old Town twittens and St Leonards' subdivided seafront terraces, then out to the bungalow towns at Bexhill, Seaford and Peacehaven. Inland, the High Weald towns — Crowborough, Uckfield, Heathfield, Hailsham — are detached houses on sandy lanes and post-war estates with drives. Between them sits Lewes, a county town whose historic core was laid out before vehicles existed. Access is what changes the price here far more often than the size of the load.

We cover fourteen East Sussex towns: Brighton, Eastbourne and Hastings first, then St Leonards-on-Sea, Bexhill-on-Sea, Seaford, Hailsham, Crowborough, Lewes, Peacehaven, Uckfield, Heathfield, Newhaven and Polegate — spanning the BN and TN postcode areas. Places that are part of a larger built-up area rather than towns in their own right, such as Hove, Portslade, Willingdon, Stone Cross, Hellingly, Cross in Hand and Telscombe Cliffs, are served from the town page they belong to and named on it rather than given a page of their own.

Two practical points we state up front. No part of East Sussex is inside the London Ultra Low Emission Zone; a job that continues into a London borough does enter it, so we allocate a compliant vehicle and show any charge in the quote instead of adding it afterwards. And no contractor can tip your waste at a council household site — those are for residents — so anything we clear goes to a licensed transfer station and you receive the waste transfer note.

Common questions

East Sussex questions, answered.

  • Which council covers my East Sussex address?

It depends where you are. Brighton and Hove is a unitary authority running its own services. Everywhere else is two-tier: East Sussex County Council handles waste disposal, while Lewes, Rother, Wealden, Eastbourne or Hastings handles parking, collections and bulky waste locally. Permits and tip rules follow the authority, not the BN or TN postcode.

  • Is any part of East Sussex inside the London ULEZ?

No. The county is well outside Greater London, so none of the towns we cover are in the Ultra Low Emission Zone. If your job continues into a London borough it enters the zone, and we allocate a compliant vehicle and show any charge in the written quote.

  • Can you take my waste to an East Sussex recycling centre?

No, and neither can any other contractor. East Sussex County Council's household sites run a residents-only permit scheme, with a separate permit needed for a van or trailer, and Brighton and Hove's Hollingdean site serves Brighton and Hove residents only. Anything we carry away goes to a licensed commercial transfer station instead, with a waste transfer note for you to keep.

  • Which East Sussex towns do you cover?

Fourteen: Brighton, Eastbourne, Hastings, St Leonards-on-Sea, Bexhill-on-Sea, Seaford, Hailsham, Crowborough, Lewes, Peacehaven, Uckfield, Heathfield, Newhaven and Polegate, across the BN and TN postcode areas. Surrounding villages and suburbs are covered from the nearest town page and named on it.

  • Why does access matter so much in this county?

Because a large share of addresses here cannot be reached by a full-size van at the door. Brighton is almost entirely controlled parking with steep single-file streets, Hastings Old Town and central Lewes have twittens and stepped lanes, and High Weald properties sit on narrow unadopted lanes. We check the street before quoting and price the carry honestly rather than discovering the problem on the day.

  • How do you price work in East Sussex?

Against the property and its access, in writing, before we start. Removals on volume, floors, lifts and carry distance; clearance on the van volume actually filled plus separately handled items; cleaning on rooms and condition; handyman work on the job and the fixing required. The agreed figure holds unless what we find is materially different from what you described.

  • Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. We hold waste carrier registration for clearance work and carry public liability and goods-in-transit cover across every division. Certificates are provided on request — managed blocks in Brighton, Eastbourne and Bexhill routinely ask for them before letting contractors in.

  • Can you combine services on one visit?

Yes, and it is usually cheaper than booking twice. A loft or garage clearance on removal day, or an end-of-tenancy clean straight after the van leaves, is a normal booking here. Tell us everything when you ask for the quote and we schedule it as a single job.
