Choosing products that work
You do not need a cupboard full of products for a deep clean. A degreaser for the kitchen, a limescale remover for bathrooms and taps, a gentle all-purpose cleaner and a supply of microfibre cloths cover most jobs. Always check that a product is safe for the surface, especially natural stone, wood and stainless steel, and never mix cleaning products.

Common preparation mistakes
- Leaving surfaces covered. Cleaners cannot clean under piles of paperwork, toys or ornaments. Clear worktops, tables and floors first.
- Keeping cupboards full when you want them cleaned inside. Empty the ones you want done and say which they are.
- Not mentioning delicate surfaces. Tell the team about natural stone, wooden worktops or specialist finishes so the right products are used.
- Forgetting access. Make sure keys, alarm codes and parking details are ready before the day.
If you are preparing a rented home
If the deep clean is for a property you rent out, or one you are leaving, check the inventory first so you know which rooms and fittings matter most at inspection. Make sure water and electricity are on, and leave cupboards open so the team can see they are empty and ready to clean inside.
