Service availability
Man with a Van is available in 62 West Midlands towns
We cover the B, CV, DY, WV, WS, WR postcode areas daily and the wider ST, TF, SY, HR districts on scheduled runs. Same-week slots are usual, next-day is common outside peak weekends, and every job is confirmed in writing with a fixed price before a crew is booked.
Man with a Van across the West Midlands
Man with a van is the right call when the job is smaller than a full removal but bigger than a car boot: a sofa from a Marketplace seller in Tipton, a student room in Selly Oak, a studio flat off Broad Street, or a pallet of stock from a Nechells trade unit.
You pay by the hour with a one-hour minimum and 30-minute increments after that, and the clock starts when the van reaches you — not when it leaves the depot. Loading, strapping and blanket-wrapping are done by the driver and, if you book two-man, the second pair of hands rather than by you.
Every van carries straps, blankets, a sack barrow and a set of tools for taking a door off its hinges when a sofa refuses to turn. Drivers are insured for goods in transit and hold waste-carrier documentation, so a load can legally include the old item they are replacing.
Tell us the largest single item and the floor it lives on when you book. Those two facts decide vehicle size and crew count, and they are the reason most hourly jobs in this region run over when they are booked blind.
What's included
One-hour minimum
No call-out fee and no minimum booking beyond the first hour — then billed in 30-minute blocks.
Loading done for you
The driver loads, straps and blanket-wraps. Two-man crews available where an item is over 40kg or the stairs are tight.
Same-day availability
Vans run from Birmingham, Coventry, Walsall, Dudley and Wolverhampton, so most postcodes get a slot within hours.
Marketplace collections
We collect from sellers, retail parks and warehouses on your behalf and send photo confirmation before we load.
Insured and licensed
Goods-in-transit cover plus an Environment Agency waste-carrier licence for any old item going with us.
Clean Air Zone ready
Compliant vans, so central Birmingham pick-ups do not attract a zone charge.
Tip runs included
Drivers know which household recycling centre takes vans on which days, and book the slot where the council requires one.
Live arrival tracking
You get the driver's mobile and a tracked ETA, useful when a seller only holds an item for a set collection window.

Local knowledge that changes the job
The Selly Oak and Coventry student cycle
Demand in B29, B16 and CV1 spikes hard in the first week of July and again in mid-September, when University of Birmingham, Aston, Coventry and Wolverhampton tenancies turn over almost simultaneously. Bristol Road and Gibbins Road become effectively single-lane with vans, so we run shorter, tighter slots in that fortnight and load from the nearest legal stopping point rather than idling on the double yellows.
For a standard student room — bed linen, boxes, a desk chair, a TV and a mini fridge — one man and van for two hours is usually enough. Shared house moves are cheaper booked as one two-man job than as three separate ones.
Black Country entries and trade collections
Terraced streets in Tipton, Cradley Heath, Darlaston and Bilston were laid out around a shared blue-brick entry barely a metre wide. A three-seat sofa will not turn through it, so we plan a front-window or two-man vertical lift instead of discovering the problem at the door.
On the trade side, the region's industrial estates — Nechells, Aldridge, Oldbury, Coventry's Bayton Road — mostly operate booked loading bays with goods-in times. Give us the bay reference when you book and we schedule around it rather than paying an idle wait.
Clean Air Zone pick-ups and city-centre kerb time
Inside the A4540 Middleway the constraint is rarely the zone charge — our vans are compliant — it is kerb time. Digbeth, the Jewellery Quarter and Highgate have bus lanes and camera-enforced loading windows, so an hourly job billed while the driver circles costs you money for nothing.
We handle it by loading from a mapped legal bay and walking the item, or by taking a 30-minute slot outside the enforcement window. Coventry's ring road junctions work the same way: we pick the junction that puts the van on the right side of the one-way system first time.
Tips, disposal and what a van can legally take
Household recycling centres run by Birmingham, Sandwell, Dudley and Walsall treat a van as trade unless it is pre-booked with a permit, and several bar vans entirely at weekends. Because we hold a waste-carrier licence we can take the old mattress or sofa away directly and issue a waste transfer note instead.
What we cannot take is paint, gas bottles, asbestos sheeting from an old Black Country garage roof, or a fridge that has not been declared — fridges need separate degassing handling. Flag those when you book and we route them to the right disposal point rather than turning up unable to load.

Man with a Van in the West Midlands — FAQs
Q1.How much is a man with a van in Birmingham?
£45 per hour for one man and van, £65 per hour for two, with a one-hour minimum and 30-minute increments after that. There is no call-out fee and the clock starts when we arrive at you.
Q2.Can you collect an item I bought online?
Yes. Give us the seller's address and collection window and we collect on your behalf, photograph the item before loading and deliver to your door. We can also take the item it replaces away under our waste-carrier licence.
Q3.Do I need to help load?
No. The driver loads and secures everything. If the item is heavy or there are stairs, book the two-man option so nothing is dragged or dropped.
Q4.What size van do you send?
Standard is a long-wheelbase Transit; a Luton with a tail lift is available for tall items such as fridge-freezers, wardrobes and gym equipment. Tell us the largest item and we send the right vehicle.
Q5.Is a man with a van cheaper than full removals?
For up to about a large studio's worth of belongings, yes. Beyond that a fixed-price house removal usually costs less than the hours a van would take, and includes dismantling and reassembly.
Q6.Will you take my old sofa or mattress to the tip?
Yes. We hold an Environment Agency waste-carrier licence, so the old item leaves with us and you get a waste transfer note. That is usually faster than booking a household recycling centre slot, since several West Midlands sites restrict van access or require a permit.
Q7.Does a pick-up inside the Clean Air Zone cost more?
No. Our vans meet the zone standard, so a collection in Digbeth, Ladywood or the Jewellery Quarter carries no surcharge. The only thing we watch there is camera-enforced loading windows, which we plan the slot around.
Q8.How quickly can you get a van to me?
Same day is normal outside the July and September student fortnight. Vans start from Birmingham, Coventry, Walsall, Dudley and Wolverhampton, so most jobs are covered within two to three hours of the call; weekday mornings have the widest choice of slots.
