Professional Packing across the West Midlands

Packing is where most self-managed moves lose their time and their crockery. A three-bedroom West Midlands house holds roughly 60 to 80 cartons; a two-person professional team clears that in a day, working room by room with a labelling system that makes the unload at the other end fast and orderly.

You can take the whole house, or just the parts that hurt: kitchens, glassware, books and wardrobes. Fragile-only packing is the most popular option we sell, because it removes the risk without removing the parts of packing people are happy to do themselves.

All materials are included in the quoted price — double-walled cartons, wardrobe cartons with hanging rails, layered tissue, bubble, mattress bags and picture cases. We take the flattened cartons away afterwards, which spares you a boot-load of trips to a Household Recycling Centre.

Where packing day sits in the week matters as much as who does it. Inside the Birmingham Clean Air Zone and on the permit-only terraced grids of Balsall Heath, Bearwood and Stirchley, we pack the day before and load early the next morning, because a packing van and a removal van cannot hold the same kerb space twice in one day.

Sequencing is the part customers rarely plan. We pack the rooms you do not need first — loft, garage, dining room — and leave beds, kettles and bathroom cupboards until the final hour, so the house stays liveable right up to the point the tail-lift drops.

How to book

Book professional packing in five steps

Step 1 — pick the service shape that fits

  • Best if you have time but not nerves

    Fragile-only pack

We take the kitchen, glassware, china, pictures and mirrors; you keep clothes, books and soft items.

    from £180
  • Best when you are working up to move day

    Full-house pack

Two or three packers clear the whole property in a day, room-coded and inventoried against the floor plan.

    from £420
  • Best for families and short-notice moves

    Pack and unpack

Packed the day before, unpacked at the new address the same week, with all packaging taken away.

    from £580
  1. Step 1

    Send us the room list

A quick video walk-through of every cupboard, loft and cellar head is enough for us to count cartons accurately.

  2. Step 2

    Choose fragile, full or pack-and-unpack

We price all three so you can see exactly what the extra covers before committing.

  3. Step 3

Lock the pack date to the completion date

Usually one to two days before the load, and never on completion morning itself.

  4. Step 4

    We handle the parking permission

Bay suspension or lift booking is applied for at the same time, with the notice your council actually requires.

  5. Step 5

    Pack, load, unpack, collect cartons

Room-coded cartons unload straight to the right room, and we take the flattened boxes away within a week.

What's included

  • All materials supplied

Double-walled cartons, wardrobe cartons, tissue, bubble wrap, mattress bags, TV and picture cases — no separate materials bill.

  • Room-coded labelling

Every carton is numbered, room-coded and listed on an inventory, so the unload crew puts each box where it belongs.

  • Fragile and specialist packing

Glassware, china, mirrors, art and instruments packed to export standard with layered protection.

  • Wardrobe cartons on the day

Hanging clothes go straight from rail to carton and back, so nothing is folded, creased or re-ironed.

  • Unpacking service

Optional same-day or next-day unpack: cartons emptied, contents placed and packaging removed.

  • Carton collection afterwards

We collect and recycle the flattened cartons within a week of your move at no extra cost.

  • Stair and floor protection

Runners, banister sleeves and door-frame padding fitted before the first carton is carried — the detail that protects a deposit on a rented Selly Oak or Earlsdon house share.

  • Declutter and dispose as we go

Anything you decide not to take is bagged separately and cleared the same week by our licensed West Midlands clearance crew, so you do not pay to move it.

Local knowledge that changes the job

Packing for the region's older housing

Victorian and Edwardian homes across Moseley, Harborne, Leamington Spa and Kings Heath have deep alcove cupboards, cellar heads and loft hatches that hold far more than people estimate — cellars in particular routinely add ten to fifteen cartons that were never in the plan. We survey those spaces before quoting so the packing day does not overrun into move day.

In drylined new-builds around Dickens Heath, Monkspath and the Coventry fringe the issue is the opposite: less storage, more integrated furniture, and tight first-floor landings. Those pack fast, but need careful wall protection while cartons are carried down.

Fragile packing that survives the M6

Most breakages happen through vibration over distance, not a dropped box. Anything travelling on the M6, M5 or M42 needs vertically stacked plates, tissue between every piece and no void left in the carton — that single detail causes more damage than rough handling ever does.

For high-value items we use the same standard as our European export packing: double-walled cartons, corner protection and a shrink-wrapped pallet base. Pictures, mirrors and TVs go in purpose-made cases rather than blanket-wrapped against the van wall.

Where the packing van can actually park

Packing needs a vehicle at the kerb for hours, not minutes, and that is a different permission from a removal slot. Birmingham, Sandwell, Coventry and Wolverhampton councils all want three to ten working days' notice for a suspended bay, and on Middleway red routes there is no waiting at all — the van waits on a side street and cartons are barrowed.

In the Jewellery Quarter and Digbeth, where flats sit above workshops with shared goods lifts, we book the lift slot with the building manager at the same time as your packing date. Black Country terraces with rear blue-brick entries usually pack out through the front, so we protect the hall carpet rather than fight the entry.

Term dates, chains and the West Midlands packing calendar

Demand here is seasonal in two distinct ways. Student packing spikes hard in the last ten days of June and again in mid-September around Selly Oak, Edgbaston, Earlsdon and Coventry city centre, when whole streets change hands in the same week.

Family packing follows completions instead, clustering on the last Friday of each month. If your chain is likely to complete on that Friday, we book the pack for the Wednesday — packing on completion morning is how people end up loading unlabelled bin bags at four in the afternoon.

What we will not pack, and what needs its own plan

Aerosols, paint, petrol, gas bottles and open alcohol do not travel, and we will flag them at survey rather than at the van door. Garden chemicals and half-used decorating tins are the two we find in almost every West Midlands garage, and both go to a Household Recycling Centre — Tyseley, Lifford Lane, Oldbury or Whitley depending on your side of the region.

Some things need a specialist rather than a packer: upright pianos, snooker tables, aquariums with live stock, and safes over about 120kg. We arrange those separately so they are not discovered on the morning when the crew is already loaded.

Choosing the right move type

Professional Packing is one route through our West Midlands moving work. If your job is shaped differently, these pages price it properly rather than approximating it.

Every move type we run in the region is listed on West Midlands moving services.

Professional Packing in the West Midlands — FAQs

Q1.How much does professional packing cost?

Fragile-only packing starts at £180, a full 2–3 bed pack at £420 and a 4–5 bed at £680. Materials are included in all of those — there is no separate carton or bubble-wrap bill.

Q2.How long does packing a house take?

A two-person team packs a typical 2–3 bed West Midlands home in one day, usually the day before the move. Larger or heavily stored properties, especially those with cellars or full lofts, take a day and a half.

Q3.Can I pack some of it myself?

Yes, and most customers do. The common split is that you pack clothes, books and soft items while we handle the kitchen, glassware, pictures and anything fragile. Self-packed cartons are covered by insurance for transit damage but not for contents you sealed yourself.

Q4.Do you take the empty boxes away?

Yes. We collect and recycle the flattened cartons within a week of the move at no extra charge, so you are not making trips to a Household Recycling Centre.

Q5.Do you unpack at the new house?

We offer an unpacking service by the half-day team: cartons are emptied, contents placed where you want them and all packaging removed the same day.

Q6.Should you pack on completion day?

No. We pack one to two days before completion wherever the chain allows, because packing and loading both need the kerb and the hallway. Packing on the morning itself is the single most common reason a West Midlands move finishes after dark.

Q7.What can't be packed into the van?

Aerosols, paint, petrol, gas bottles and open alcohol cannot travel. We identify them at survey and point you to the nearest Household Recycling Centre — Tyseley, Lifford Lane, Oldbury or Whitley depending on where you are in the region.

Q8.Do you pack student rooms in Selly Oak and Coventry?

Yes, and it is a fixed short booking rather than a day rate: one packer, about two hours, from £120 including materials. Late June and mid-September fill weeks ahead around the university streets, so book as soon as your tenancy end date is confirmed.
