Outdoor Furniture Installation across the West Midlands

Outdoor assembly is a different discipline from indoor flat-pack: everything has to be level on ground that is not, and everything has to stay put in wind that the instructions rarely account for. The West Midlands sits in the path of Atlantic westerlies funnelled between the Clent Hills and the Shropshire gap, and unanchored gazebos across the region do not survive their first autumn.

We build and then secure — ground anchors, ballast, expansion bolts into slabs or screw piles into soft ground, chosen from what your garden actually offers. Levelling comes first, because a pergola built out of plumb on sloping ground puts all its load into two posts.

Typical jobs are rattan and aluminium dining sets, gazebos and pergolas, garden sheds and bike stores, trampolines, swing sets and raised beds.

Season matters here more than in any other handyman job. Most of the region's garden kit is delivered between March and June, sits in the box for a fortnight, and is then built in a rush before a bank holiday — by which point a missing fixing pack takes a week to replace. We check the pack before we start so that problem surfaces on day one.

Access is the other constant. Terraced gardens in Tipton, Small Heath and Cradley Heath are reached through the house or a narrow blue-brick entry, so shed panels and pergola beams have to be sized against the entry width before the order, not after the pallet lands on the pavement.

How it works in the West Midlands

  1. Step 1

    Send us the details

Tell us the number of rooms, what matters most and how we get in. Access quirks in the West Midlands are worth mentioning now: they change the time on site more than the floor area does.

  2. Step 2

    Get a fixed quote

We price outdoor furniture installation in writing, usually the same day, with the labour, materials and disposal all itemised so nothing appears later.

  3. Step 3

    Lock in the visit

Morning or afternoon, weekly, fortnightly or one-off. Recurring visits keep the same slot, so the West Midlands clients know exactly when the door will go.

  4. Step 4

    Finished and signed off

Work runs to the written spec, and the job isn't closed until it has been checked against it. If something on the list was missed, we return and put it right free.

What's included

  • Levelled on real ground

Feet packed, slabs shimmed or a base squared before assembly, so nothing rocks or twists.

  • Wind anchoring

Ground anchors, expansion bolts into paving or screw piles into lawn, specified for the structure and your exposure.

  • Sheds and bike stores

Panels squared, roof felted correctly and doors adjusted so they still close after the first wet month.

  • Trampolines and play equipment

Assembled to the safety spec, netting tensioned and the frame anchored.

  • Weather protection applied

Cut ends treated, fixings stainless or galvanised, and timber protected where the kit supplies bare wood.

  • Packaging removed

Cardboard, banding and pallets taken away and recycled.

  • Access checked before build day

Entry width, gate height and pallet drop point confirmed from photos, so nothing arrives that cannot reach the garden.

  • Hardware pack audited first

Every bolt, bracket and panel counted against the manifest before assembly starts, so missing parts are claimed on day one.

Local knowledge that changes the job

Wind exposure across the region

Exposure varies enormously in a short distance here. Gardens on the higher ground of Rowley Regis, Sedgley, Halesowen and the Clent fringe take the full westerly, and gazebos there need bolt-down anchoring rather than the supplied pegs. Sheltered valley plots in Bournville, Moseley and along the Blythe get far less wind but hold damp, so shed bases need airflow underneath more than they need ballast.

We ask which side your garden faces and what sits upwind before we decide the anchoring method — a fence line or a mature hedge changes the loading more than the postcode does.

Bases, slabs and the region's clay

Much of the West Midlands sits on Mercia mudstone clay that heaves in winter and shrinks in summer. A shed set straight onto lawn on that ground will be out of square within two seasons and the door will jam — the classic complaint we get called out to fix.

The fix is a proper base: slabs bedded level, a timber frame on adjustable feet, or plastic grid on compacted hardcore. We will tell you honestly which your garden needs, and can lay it as part of the same visit rather than sending you back to a builder.

Getting the kit down the entry

Black Country and inner-Birmingham terraces are typically reached through a shared blue-brick entry around 800mm wide with a low arch. A 6x4 shed panel goes through; an 8x6 apex panel often does not, and a pallet-delivered gazebo frame almost never does in one piece.

Send a photo of the entry and gate before ordering and we will tell you what will physically reach the garden. Where nothing will, we build in sections outside and carry components through, which adds time but avoids a cancelled delivery.

Fence lines, boundaries and neighbour disputes

Gazebos, pergolas and tall bike stores sited hard against a boundary cause more friction than any other garden job, particularly on the tight plots of Erdington, Bearwood, Willenhall and Foleshill where gardens are barely five metres wide.

We set structures with maintenance access to your own side wherever the plot allows and keep guttering and roof overhang inside your boundary. It costs nothing at build stage and saves the conversation later.

Building through a West Midlands winter

We assemble all year, but two jobs are weather-dependent: felt adhesive will not bond in heavy rain, and timber treatment will not take on a wet or frozen surface. Between November and February we build the structure, sheet it, and return briefly to felt or treat at no extra charge.

Winter is genuinely the best time to book a base. The ground is at its wettest, so a base laid then is levelled against the worst conditions the plot will see rather than against dry summer clay that will shrink underneath it.

What to have ready for your Outdoor Furniture Installation job

Describe the item and the surface it's going on. Exposed plots on the Clent and Chase edges need ground fixing, not assembly alone.

Have this ready — What's being built, and on what surface? — and the quote comes back with a firm price rather than a range.

Weekday replies land within one working hour. Nothing is booked and no deposit is taken until the price is confirmed in writing.

When the job is a move, not a fixing

Plenty of outdoor furniture installation enquiries start as something else — a house move, a store collection or an office change. These pages price that side of the work properly rather than squeezing it into an hourly handyman slot.

Every removal service we run in the region is listed on West Midlands moving services, and the fixing side sits on West Midlands handyman services.

Most jobs in the region touch more than one trade — a tenancy clean before a move, an assembly visit after a delivery, or an office contract that needs both. These hubs price each side properly.

Outdoor Furniture Installation in the West Midlands — FAQs

Q1.How much does garden furniture assembly cost?

A rattan or dining set starts at £65, a gazebo or pergola at £180, a shed up to 8x6 at £220 and a trampoline or swing set at £110 including ground anchoring.

Q2.Do you anchor gazebos against wind?

Yes, and it is essential in this region. Depending on your surface we use expansion bolts into paving, ground anchors or screw piles into lawn — the pegs supplied in most kits are not adequate for West Midlands autumn westerlies.

Q3.Can you build a shed base as well?

Yes. On the region's clay soils a shed set directly on lawn goes out of square within two seasons, so we can lay bedded slabs, a framed timber base or plastic grid on hardcore during the same visit.

Q4.Do you assemble in winter?

Yes, all year. We avoid felting a shed roof in heavy rain because the adhesive will not bond, so in bad weather we build and return briefly to felt — at no extra charge.

Q5.Will you take the packaging?

Yes, including pallets and steel banding, which most councils will not take in a domestic collection.

Q6.Will a shed fit down my entry?

Send a photo of the entry and gate first. A typical Black Country blue-brick entry is around 800mm wide, which takes a 6x4 panel but often defeats an 8x6 apex panel, in which case we carry components through and assemble in the garden.

Q7.Can you remove my old shed at the same time?

Yes, from £140. We dismantle it, remove the timber and felt under our waste carrier licence and issue a transfer note — felt and treated timber are not accepted in household recycling collections.

Q8.How close to the fence can a pergola or bike store go?

We site structures so you retain maintenance access on your own side and keep roof overhang and guttering inside your boundary. On the region's narrower plots that usually means pulling the structure 300–400mm off the fence line.
