Spring Cleaning across the
West Midlands

Most of Birmingham, Sandwell, Dudley and Walsall drinks Elan Valley water, among the softest in England. Households here almost never fight limescale — but they get soap bloom instead, a dull grey film on shower screens, chrome and tiled splashbacks that builds slowly enough that nobody notices until it is removed.

Our crews dose low and rinse twice on soft-water postcodes, then dry glass and chrome by hand rather than letting it air. In Coventry, Rugby and the Warwickshire fringe the supply is blended and harder, so the same bathroom needs an acidic descaler instead. Getting that the wrong way round is why some spring cleans look flat afterwards.

The interwar semis that fill Hall Green, Great Barr, Wednesfield and Tile Hill have suspended timber floors, deep skirtings and radiators on external walls. Warm air rises through the floor voids all winter and drops fine grit along the skirting line and behind every radiator — the two places a routine clean never reaches.

We take radiators as a separate line on the room list for exactly this reason: long-reach brush down the fins, vacuum at the base, then wash the wall and skirting behind. In a three-bed semi that is typically forty minutes on its own, and it is the change people notice most in the weeks afterwards.

Victorian terraces in Moseley, Kings Heath, Bearwood and Earlsdon come with picture rails, sash reveals, cast-iron radiator backs and original tiled hallway floors that stain if you flood them. Those get controlled damp work and a lot of hand time.

Jewellery Quarter and Digbeth conversions are the opposite problem: exposed brick, steel-framed windows and open ductwork all need dry dusting, because washing them streaks the mortar and rust-marks the steel. Solihull, Dickens Heath, Whitnash and Longbridge new-builds are drylined with matt emulsion that burnishes permanently if you scrub it, so those walls get dry sponge only.

Homes along the A38, A34, the Coventry ring road and the M6 corridor through Perry Barr and Bescot pick up a fine traffic film on the inside of window glass that reappears within weeks if the reveals and vents are not cleaned at the same time. We always do glass, sill, reveal and vent as one operation on those postcodes.

Tree-lined roads in Sutton Coldfield, Solihull, Kenilworth and Bournville have the opposite calendar: birch and lime pollen through late April and May means an early-March window clean is wasted. On those streets we suggest the internal spring clean in March and the window package in June, and we will happily split the booking that way rather than sell you both at once.
