Everything we take is sorted for reuse and recycling where it can be, and the rest goes to a licensed commercial transfer station.

Probate and downsizing clearances are the part of this work that needs care rather than speed, and in Hampshire they concentrate in the SO21 and SP11 villages, Winchester, Andover's hinterland and the older parts of Fareham and Portchester. We work room by room, set aside documents, photographs and anything that looks personal or valuable for the family to see rather than making the decision ourselves, and we do not rush a family through a house. Where clearance demand concentrates in Hampshire

Three disposal authorities and one rule that applies to all of them

Hampshire is split. Hampshire County Council is the disposal authority for the shire districts and runs the household waste recycling centres, which require a permit for a van, pick-up or trailer and accept no trade waste. Southampton City Council and Portsmouth City Council are separate unitary authorities running their own sites, parking and chargeable bulky-waste collections. Your district or borough — Basingstoke and Deane, Test Valley, Winchester, Eastleigh, Fareham, Rushmoor, Hart, Havant, Gosport, East Hampshire or New Forest — sets the bulky collection everywhere else. The rule that survives all three splits is simple: no contractor may tip your waste at a council household site, whatever vehicle it arrives in. Everything we clear goes to a licensed transfer station instead, and you receive the waste transfer note that proves where it went. For two or three bulky items, a council collection is often cheaper than a clearance, and we will tell you so rather than quote for work you do not need.

  • Are you licensed to take waste away?

    Yes. We are registered waste carriers, everything we remove goes to a licensed transfer station, and you get the waste transfer note for the job. Keep it: if waste with your name in it is fly-tipped, that document is what shows it left your property lawfully.

  • Can you use a Hampshire recycling centre for my clearance?

    No, and no other contractor can either. Hampshire County Council's sites are for residents disposing of their own household waste, with a permit required for a van, pick-up or trailer, and they do not accept trade waste. Southampton's and Portsmouth's unitary sites apply the same principle. Our disposal runs through licensed commercial facilities.

  • How is a clearance priced?

    On the volume actually filled in the van, against our national rate card, with separately handled items such as fridges, mattresses, paint and electricals listed individually. We quote in writing before starting, and if the load turns out smaller than described the price comes down accordingly.

  • Do you handle probate clearances sensitively?

    Yes. We work room by room at the family's pace, set aside documents, photographs and anything that appears personal or valuable for you to review rather than deciding ourselves, and we can arrange donation of usable furniture where a charity will take it. Timescales are agreed with you, not imposed.

  • Would a council bulky collection be cheaper for me?

    For two or three large items it often is, and your district, borough or city council runs one. We will say so when that is the better answer for you. A clearance makes sense when there is a vanload, when access is difficult, when the timescale is tight, or when the items are of a type the council collection will not take.
