Southampton in practice

Southampton is the busiest place we work in Hampshire and the only one where the diary is set by an academic calendar rather than by the housing market. The converted houses and purpose-built blocks through Portswood, Highfield, Swaythling and St Denys turn over in a compressed window across the summer, so end-of-tenancy cleans, part-load moves and flat clearances arrive as a wave rather than a trickle. We take those bookings weeks out, and we will tell you honestly in late June if the slot you want in SO17 has already gone rather than promise it and reschedule.

Everywhere else in the city the job is conventional inside the property and awkward outside it. Most of SO14, SO15 and SO17 is resident permit parking, the terraced carriageways around Bevois Valley and Freemantle are narrow enough that a Luton blocks them while it loads, and the waterside blocks at Ocean Village and along the Itchen have height-restricted underground parking, a booked service lift and a concierge who expects notice. The suburbs at Bitterne, Sholing, Shirley and Bassett are the easy part — drives, side gates and space to work — and that is where the full-house removals and garage clearances come from.

Two points on the rules. Southampton is a unitary authority, so the city's own recycling centre, parking scheme and chargeable bulky-waste collection apply, and a Hampshire County Council tip permit is not the relevant document. And we do not hold a named Hampshire crew record, so we will not tell you a Southampton team is based here — the work is covered by vetted, insured crews already running jobs in the city, priced in writing before anyone starts, with a waste transfer note on every clearance.

Southampton at a glance

Housing stock
Victorian and Edwardian terraces and large converted houses through Portswood, Highfield, St Denys and Bevois Valley, much of it in shared student occupation; interwar and post-war semis at Bitterne, Sholing, Shirley and Bassett; post-war council-built estates at Lordshill, Millbrook, Weston and Thornhill; and a substantial modern waterside flat market at Ocean Village, Chapel and the Itchen riverside
Access on the day
Southampton is a dense city and the parking scheme decides the job. Most of SO14, SO15 and SO17 sits inside resident permit zones with limited or no visitor bays, and the terraced streets around Portswood and Bevois Valley are narrow enough that a Luton blocks them while it loads. Modern waterside blocks at Ocean Village and the Itchen riverside have height-restricted underground parking, booked service lifts and concierge sign-in. Southampton City Council is a unitary authority: it runs the city's own household waste recycling centre, its own parking rules and its own bulky-waste collections, and a Hampshire County Council tip permit is not the relevant document here.

Common questions

Southampton questions, answered.

  • Which parts of Southampton do you cover?

Every address in SO14, SO15, SO16, SO17, SO18, SO19, plus the surrounding Hampshire villages and neighbouring Eastleigh, Winchester, Fareham, Portsmouth. There is no travel surcharge inside that area.

  • Do you work on Southampton's type of housing?

Yes. Victorian and Edwardian terraces and large converted houses through Portswood, Highfield, St Denys and Bevois Valley, much of it in shared student occupation; interwar and post-war semis at Bitterne, Sholing, Shirley and Bassett; post-war council-built estates at Lordshill, Millbrook, Weston and Thornhill; and a substantial modern waterside flat market at Ocean Village, Chapel and the Itchen riverside We size the crew, the van and the kit to the property rather than quoting one flat template for the whole county.

  • Where will the crew park in Southampton?

We confirm the loading point with you when the job is booked, so nothing is decided on the doorstep on the day.

  • How quickly can you get to SO14?

Most Southampton jobs are booked within two to three days, and we hold same-week slots for end-of-tenancy cleans and clearances tied to a fixed check-out or completion date.
