Fareham in practice

Fareham is comfortable to work in and the reason is the age of the housing. The Western Wards — Locks Heath, Park Gate, Sarisbury, Titchfield Common — and the modern development at Whiteley were built late enough to assume two cars per household, so drives, garages and turning space are the norm and a Luton reaches the door at most addresses. Those estates are where our full-house removals, garage and loft clearances and after-builders cleans concentrate, and they are quoted on volume because access simply is not the limiting factor.

Two parts of the borough behave differently. The old market-town centre and the streets behind Fareham High Street are narrow and short of loading space, so those jobs are planned with a stopping point and a carry rather than a van at the door. The Solent shore at Warsash, Hill Head and Titchfield village runs to tight and occasionally single-track lanes where the largest vehicle is the wrong choice, and Portchester adds its own quirk: the older streets close to the castle and the harbour edge are tighter than the postcode suggests. We confirm the approach when quoting.

The point we raise before booking in Whiteley is administrative rather than physical. The development is split between Fareham and Winchester, and since parking, bin collections and bulky-waste pickups are set by the district or borough while disposal belongs to Hampshire County Council, the authority responsible for your address is not always the one you would guess from the address itself. We check it, because it decides what a council bulky collection would cost you and whether it beats a clearance for two or three items.

Fareham at a glance

Housing stock
Georgian and Victorian property along Fareham High Street and the old town; interwar and post-war semis through Wallington, Catisfield and Portchester; extensive 1970s to 1990s owner-occupier estates across Locks Heath, Park Gate, Sarisbury and Titchfield Common; modern development at Whiteley; and waterside housing at Warsash, Hill Head and Swanwick
Access on the day
Fareham is comfortable to work in. The Western Wards estates — Locks Heath, Park Gate, Titchfield Common, Whiteley — are modern, with drives, garages and turning space, and the suburbs at Portchester, Wallington and Catisfield are conventional. Three things need checking first: the old High Street and the streets behind it are narrow with limited loading, the waterside lanes at Warsash, Hill Head and Titchfield village are tight and sometimes single-track, and the Whiteley boundary runs between Fareham and Winchester so the responsible council is not always the obvious one. Fareham Borough Council sets parking, collections and bulky waste; disposal is Hampshire County Council's permit-controlled sites, no trade waste accepted.

Ridiculous situation where cleaners came from Southampton to Devon to clean bungalow. Apparently this situation arose as our local cleaners were unable to come but had supported the folk from Southampton in the past. Thank goodness for loyalty! After a 3.5 hour journey to get to me they did not stop for drinks or food… Read in full →

Many thanks to Izabel's team in Southampton for doing truly an amazing job! We moved into a pretty disgusting house and the team achieved wonders in just a few hours! Buyers should bear in mind however that Hello Services charges a 50% cancellation fee if you cancel - which we thought was pretty high!

Easy to book this service and lovely chaps who turned up. A few bits missed behind the bath and in the cupboards but nothing to complain about. Lovely job in the main areas e.g. oven, carpets, windows. Would use again at the next end of tenancy. This was a two bedroom house in Aldershot.
