Local crews, priced before you commit

If you want a local mover in Astley rather than a national call centre, this is the page. Same crews, same vans, same phone number every time — covering Tyldesley, Boothstown, Leigh as well, with the price agreed before anything is loaded.

Colliery terraces at Astley Green, interwar semis along the A580 and modern estates towards Tyldesley. That stock decides the answer more than the bedroom count does: a first-floor conversion with a tight turn can take longer than a three-bed semi with a driveway, and the quote should say so up front.

Access, parking and timing

Loading in Astley: what the crew plans for

Colliery terraces at Astley Green, interwar semis along the A580 and modern estates towards Tyldesley. That stock, the street it sits on and the Wigan Council rules over it decide how long the day takes — so all three are settled at survey, not on the morning.

How Astley homes actually load

With a drive and side access the load runs quickly; the survey concentrates on garages, garden rooms and anything oversized that needs a second pair of hands or a leg-off. Local context matters here: astley green colliery worked the chat moss coalfield from 1908 to 1970; the headgear and engine house survive as a museum, which is why the access varies so much between neighbouring streets.

Parking the van in M29

Parking is arranged before the date is confirmed: we check the restriction on your street with Wigan Council, book a suspension or a permit bay if the carry would otherwise be long, and tell you at survey what it adds. With Astley drives and side access the van gets close, so volume rather than carry sets the day.

Timing a local mover booking in Astley

We schedule Astley jobs so the loading window sits outside the Wigan rush; end-of-month Fridays are the first dates to go, so book those two to three weeks out where you can. Booked most often on the M29 streets around Astley Green Colliery Museum.

Before you accept the quote

Floor and lift, stair turns, parking distance and anything oversized — those four set the price of a local mover callout here far more than the M29 postcode does. Show us all four on the video survey and the figure is fixed. Wigan Council loading rules on the M29 end are checked before the slot is confirmed.

Jobs we run most often in Astley

If one of these looks like yours, say so when you enquire — we will quote it from the closest job we have already done in Wigan rather than starting from a blank form.

Honest sizing

Comparing a van against a full crew

Half the people searching for movers near Astley need two hours and a Luton; the other half need a fixed-price removal. We tell you which one is cheaper before you commit. Local context matters here: astley green colliery worked the chat moss coalfield from 1908 to 1970; the headgear and engine house survive as a museum, which is why the access varies so much between neighbouring streets.

Single loaded trip

Moving on to Tyldesley or Boothstown

Neighbouring-district moves run as one loaded trip with the return leg absorbed, which is why a Astley-to-Tyldesley job costs less than the mileage suggests. Roughly 4,600 households sit inside these postcodes, so weekend dates here go early.

Local crew, no travel fee

Nearest available crew to Astley

Most callouts here are covered by a crew already working Wigan that morning, so the van reaches M29 without a cross-county run being added to your hours. With Astley drives and side access the van gets close, so volume rather than carry sets the day.

Same-week slots

Short-notice move out of a four-bed detached

Someone pulled out, the keys came early, the tenancy ends Friday. We hold back same-week slots for exactly this, priced the same as a booking made a month ahead. Wigan Council loading rules on the M29 end are checked before the slot is confirmed.

How it works in Astley

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the job

Send the property size, access notes and dates. Photos of anything awkward in Astley — stairs, narrow entries, permit bays — sharpen the price straight away.

  2. Step 2

    Confirm the price

The quote is fixed before anyone books time off work: labour, products and any extras listed separately, so you can cut the scope rather than the standard if the number is over budget.

  3. Step 3

    Choose your window

Pick the day and window that suits you. Rounds are built geographically around Astley, which is why the arrival time holds rather than drifting across the day.

  4. Step 4

    Job done and checked

The team works to the agreed spec, walks the finished work with you and only closes the job once you're happy. Anything missed, we come back.

Why choose Hello Services in Astley

A local, insured mover is only worth booking if the crew turns up, prices honestly and finishes the spec. These are the commitments we hold ourselves to in Astley.

  • Fixed prices, confirmed in writing

You get the a local, insured mover price in writing before we start. Access, stair turns and parking are priced in up front, not added afterwards.

  • Local scheduling, not a call centre

Slots are planned around Astley traffic, permit zones and parking realities, so crews arrive inside the window we promised.

  • Re-do guarantee

If anything on the a local, insured mover spec is missed, we come back and put it right at no extra cost — that is the whole guarantee.

  • One team for the whole property

Cleaning, moving, handyman and clearance all run from the same Astley scheduling desk, so a multi-part job needs one booking.

Before you pay a deposit

Six checks on any Astley mover

Use these on us as well as on anyone else you shortlist. A mover who cannot answer all six in writing is quoting a number, not a job.

  1. 1

Ask for goods-in-transit cover, in writing

Any mover working Astley should send a certificate with the confirmation, not read a number out over the phone. Ours states the limit per load and the excess before you pay a deposit.

  2. 2

Check the waste carrier licence separately

Removals and rubbish are different licences. If a crew offers to take the leftovers away, they need an Environment Agency waste carrier registration and should hand you a transfer note — Wigan Council can fine the householder, not just the carrier, for fly-tipped waste.

  3. 3

Get the access questions asked back at you

A real local mover asks about the floor, the lift, the stair turn and the parking around Astley Green Colliery Museum and its Grade II listed headgear before quoting. A price given without those questions will change on the day.

  4. 4

Insist the quote lists the hourly rate and the minimum

"From £45" is meaningless without the minimum hours, the crew size and what happens after the fourth hour. Ours prints all three.

  5. 5

Look for a fixed price on completion-day work

Chains slip. On Astley completion days we hold the load sealed overnight for a stated fee rather than charging a second day's labour at short notice.

  6. 6

Confirm who is actually turning up

Ask whether the job is subcontracted. Ours is not: Wigan bookings are covered by our own ID- and reference-checked crews in our own liveried vans.

Movers near you in Astley: local proof

Astley Green Colliery Museum and its Grade II listed headgear anchors the round we run through Astley, and every local move in Astley on that round starts from the same local checklist. Astley Green Colliery worked the Chat Moss coalfield from 1908 to 1970; the headgear and engine house survive as a museum — useful context when you are quoting surfaces, not square metres.

Our teams plan for one recurring Astley issue: peat mossland and the East Lancs Road together mean damp. The colliery museum volunteers, Astley Green village life and the Bridgewater Canal towpath — we plan access and arrival times around all of it. Coverage runs across M29 and the Wigan streets either side of it.

Movers near Astley — FAQs

  • Who are the closest movers to Astley?

Our nearest crews work out of Wigan and the adjoining boroughs, covering M29 daily. Because the vans are already local there is no call-out fee and no travel time added to your hours for anywhere inside Greater Manchester. With Astley drives and side access the van gets close, so volume rather than carry sets the day.

    Link to this answer
  • How much do movers near Astley cost?

Hourly work starts at £45 an hour for a van, driver and porter with a two-hour minimum. Fixed-price house removals start at £395 for a two-bed. Long-distance work is priced at £45 or £65 an hour plus £1.50 a mile, with 1.5 hours of loading and unloading built in. Priced the same whether you are moving inside Astley or across to Tyldesley.

    Link to this answer
  • Are you insured?

Every load carries goods-in-transit cover and the company holds £5m public liability. Certificates are issued with your confirmation on request — ask any mover you shortlist for the same. Local context matters here: astley green colliery worked the chat moss coalfield from 1908 to 1970; the headgear and engine house survive as a museum, which is why the access varies so much between neighbouring streets.

  • What about parking and permits around Astley Green Colliery Museum and its Grade II listed headgear?

Wigan Council runs the loading and permit rules here, and we arrange the bay or the loading window before the day. The walk-in distance is priced into the quote instead of appearing on the invoice. With Astley drives and side access the van gets close, so volume rather than carry sets the day.

    Link to this answer
  • Do I need a man and van or a full removal crew?

As a rule of thumb: up to a one-bed flat, hourly man-and-van is cheaper; from two bedrooms up, a fixed-price removal is quicker and usually costs less than the hours would. Send a room list and we will tell you which is better value — including when that is the smaller booking. Roughly 4,600 households sit inside these postcodes, so weekend dates here go early.

    Link to this answer
  • Can you move me this week?

Usually yes. We hold back same-week and weekend slots across Wigan for short-notice work, and most Astley enquiries are quoted the same day after a ten-minute video survey. Roughly 4,600 households sit inside these postcodes, so weekend dates here go early.

    Link to this answer
  • Can you handle the stairs and access in detached homes around Astley Green Colliery Museum and its Grade II listed headgear?

Detached properties usually park the van on the drive, so labour goes into volume rather than carry distance: outbuildings, garden machinery and large-format furniture set the crew size. Send a short video of the stairwell and the street and we will confirm crew size before the date is held. Booked most often on the M29 streets around Astley Green Colliery Museum.

    Link to this answer
  • Do I need a parking permit or bay suspension in Astley?

Often, yes — Wigan Council controls loading on most M29 streets. We check your street at survey and, where a suspension saves a long carry, we apply for it and show the cost in the quote before you accept it. With Astley drives and side access the van gets close, so volume rather than carry sets the day.

    Link to this answer
  • Do you take away what I am not keeping?

Yes — a licensed clearance run can be added to any Astley booking, quoted up front with a waste transfer note, so the old sofa and the shed contents leave on the same visit. Crews run from Wigan, so Tyldesley and Boothstown journeys carry no out-of-area charge.

    Link to this answer
  • Which areas near Astley do you cover?

Tyldesley, Boothstown, Leigh, Atherton, Worsley and every other Greater Manchester district, each with its own page and identical pricing. Nothing inside the county carries an out-of-area surcharge. Booked most often on the M29 streets around Astley Green Colliery Museum.

  • Is there anything you cannot move out of Astley?

Pianos, safes, American fridges, gym equipment and large glass units all move, but they are quoted at survey because they need extra crew or kit. Paint, fuel, gas bottles and perishables we cannot legally carry — Tyldesley customers usually clear those with the same booking. With Astley drives and side access the van gets close, so volume rather than carry sets the day.

  • How long does a local mover booking in Astley usually take?

Most M29 local mover callouts finish inside a working day. Floor level, lift availability and carry distance change that more than the size of the property, which is why we time the job from the survey rather than the bedroom count. Roughly 4,600 households sit inside these postcodes, so weekend dates here go early.

Before you book

Why Astley customers book with us

Most complaints about removals in Wigan come down to three things: the price changed, the crew was short, or nobody answered the phone. These are our commitments on all three.

Cover that actually applies

Goods-in-transit and public liability cover is in place on every Astley local mover callout, and claims go to a named account manager here rather than a form.

Before you commit

Call 020 3633 4555 and ask what a local mover booking like yours costs from £45 an hour. If a cheaper option fits better — a smaller van, an hourly booking, a different day — we will say so.

Fixed before we start

Access, stair turns, parking and carry distance are all priced at survey. If nothing is added to the inventory, the M29 figure you accepted is the figure you pay.

If the chain slips

Your load stays sealed and insured overnight for a fixed fee and delivers first thing — we do not unload onto a driveway or re-quote the second day at short-notice rates.

Booked with your local mover search

A move in Wigan is rarely just a van. These are the jobs our Astley crews are asked for in the same week — clearing what is not worth transporting, packing, reinstating shelves and fixings, and getting both properties clean — each on its own page with its own pricing.

  • Start using up freezer food, cleaning products and anything that cannot travel.

Two weeks before — paperwork and access

  • Apply for the Wigan Council permit or bay suspension (allow 5–10 working days).
  • Book the lift or service entrance if your building near Astley Green Colliery Museum and its Grade II listed headgear has one.
  • Redirect post and update your address on the M29 electoral roll, bank and insurance.
  • Notify energy, water, broadband and council tax with opening and closing dates.
  • Register with a new GP, dentist and vet if you are leaving the area.
  • Arrange school transfers or nursery notice periods.

One week before — pack room by room

  • Label every box with the destination room, not the room it came from.
  • Pack a 'first night' box: kettle, mugs, chargers, bedding, toilet roll, medication.
  • Photograph the back of the TV and any flat-pack you are dismantling.
  • Drain the washing machine and fit its transit bolts.
  • Dispose of paint, oils and garden waste through the Wigan Council tip — the crew cannot legally load them.
  • Set aside valuables, passports and jewellery to travel with you.

The day before — final prep

  • Charge phones and keep a paper copy of the crew's number and the new address.
  • Defrost the fridge-freezer and towel it dry.
  • Take meter readings at the old property and photograph them.
  • Put cones or bins out to hold the loading space if Astley parking is tight.
  • Bag bedding and clothes, and strip the beds you are taking.
  • Confirm arrival window with the crew and the key-collection time with the agent.

Moving day — loading

  • Walk the crew through the property and flag fragile and do-not-load items.
  • Protect carpets, stair noses and door frames before the first box moves.
  • Load heavy furniture first, boxes second, soft furnishings last.
  • Keep the first-night box and paperwork with you, not in the van.
  • Check lofts, sheds, the garden and every cupboard before the van leaves.
  • Final meter readings, lock up and hand back keys.

Moving day — unloading and sign-off

  • Direct each box to its labelled room as it comes off the van.
  • Build beds first so the day can end even if boxes are still packed.
  • Test the boiler, hot water, smoke alarms and the consumer unit.
  • Take arrival meter readings and photograph them.
  • Check items against your inventory and report damage before the crew leaves.
  • Break down boxes and book a recycling collection or clearance slot.

Milad and his assistant did an excellent pre-move deep clean of our new home, turned up on time, spent longer than expected and were very friendly - thanks so much. We were pleasantly surprised at how well each room was done and in particular how exhaustively they cleaned the kitchen and appliances. It was great… Read in full →

Used hello services hello vans to move a few large items from a top floor flat (with no lift) to a ground floor property. The men they sent took care of my items, loaded, transported and unloaded my items with respect, I can't complain. I was happy with the price I was charged for the… Read in full →

Genuinely blown away by the high standard of the end of tenancy clean. Given the price, I thought I would be sacrificing a certain level of quality, but wow, Sardar was incredible. Arrived on time with great communication, got to work immediately, and even though the kitchen was a much bigger job than you would… Read in full →
