Moving from London to Greater Manchester the long corridor, priced straight

Around two hundred road miles and four hours of loaded driving. This is the longest domestic corridor we run as a standard same-day job, and the one where the departure time, not the price list, decides whether you sleep in your own bed.

The route

London to Greater Manchester Full-length haul, departure time is everything

Greater Manchester is 195 to 210 road miles from central London — about £300 of the price is road before anyone lifts a box. Four hours of driving means an early start, one crew and one load, all on the published formula.

How it works

Three steps and a price that holds

  1. Volume, access and a realistic start time

We agree a seven or eight o'clock London start, because on a 200-mile run the clock is the constraint, not the price list.

  2. One-day or two-day, decided honestly

Most 1- to 3-bed homes are a single long day. Larger homes we quote as a two-day run with an overnight, and we say why.

  3. Same crew, M1 or M6, unloaded and rebuilt

Four hours up, then beds and wardrobes reassembled at the far end before the crew leaves.

Why us

Why this corridor runs differently full-length haul, departure time is everything

At roughly two hundred miles the road leg is around £300, so for the first time mileage rivals crew time as the biggest line on the bill. It also consumes four hours of the working day before a single item is carried into the new house. That is why a Manchester job is planned backwards from the unload: to finish in daylight, the London load has to be complete by about half past nine, which usually means a crew on site at seven.

The counterintuitive part is that Greater Manchester's internal geography barely changes your price. Stockport at 195 miles and Bolton at 210 differ by £22 of road cost — under five per cent on a typical 3-bed. What genuinely changes the number is whether the job runs as one long day or as a two-day run with an overnight, which we price at £220 and recommend for 4- and 5-bed homes where four hours of driving plus a full unload is more than one crew should safely do.

Planned backwards from the unload

Four hours of driving means the London load must finish by half nine. We book the crew at seven so your Manchester unload lands in daylight.

Distance inside the county is noise

Stockport to Bolton is £22 apart on the formula. We do not inflate outer-borough prices — the number is the same sum with a different mileage.

Two-day runs, honestly recommended

On 4- and 5-bed homes we will tell you a two-day run with an overnight (£220) is the safer job, rather than pushing one crew through fourteen hours.

No depot transfer at 200 miles

Long-haul is where other firms trans-ship your load. We do not: one crew loads in London and unloads in Salford.

Access notes we plan around in Greater Manchester

  • Deansgate and Salford Quays towers: service-lift slots booked in advance, typically a two-hour window.
  • Oldham and Rochdale: steep Pennine-edge streets limit where a loaded 18-tonne can safely stop.
  • Manchester city centre: timed loading restrictions apply on several central streets.
  • M6 and M62: the two junctions that decide the clock, and therefore the billable crew hours.

About the destination

About Greater Manchester in brief

Greater Manchester is the largest urban area outside London: 2.9 million people across ten boroughs, from Wigan in the west to Oldham on the Pennine edge. A decade of tower building around Deansgate and Salford Quays, plus the media and tech employers at MediaCity, has made it the single most common long-distance destination we are asked about. Two hundred miles up the M1 or M6, it is also the furthest we will still run as a standard one-day move.
