Moving from London to the West Midlands one trip, one crew

One hundred to one hundred and thirty-three road miles up the M40 or M1. Far enough that the drive is a real cost line and a second trip is never an option — so the whole job is engineered around loading everything, once, correctly.

The route

London to West Midlands One-trip long haul, load-plan critical

The West Midlands sits 100 to 133 road miles from central London — two and a half hours of loaded driving. It is a one-trip corridor: whatever misses the van does not get a second run, so the load plan matters more than anywhere closer.

How it works

Three steps and a price that holds

  1. Volume survey, then the postcode pair

On a one-trip route we establish how much there actually is before anything else — that decides the vehicle and the crew hours.

  2. Route and timing chosen against the M6

We set the load time so the drive clears the worst of the motorway rather than sitting in it on your bill.

  3. One vehicle, one crew, unloaded the same day

Two and a half hours of driving still lands a same-day unload when we start early. Nothing waits overnight in a van.

Why us

Why this corridor runs differently one-trip long haul, load-plan critical

At 100 to 133 miles the road leg costs £150 to £200 and the arithmetic flips. Distance stops being a rounding error and becomes a fixed cost you pay once, which is exactly why we will not run two trips to Birmingham. Everything has to fit in one vehicle, so the survey question that matters is volume, not floors — how many cubic feet you actually have, and whether that is a 7.5-tonne or an 18-tonne lorry.

This is also the corridor where the M40 versus M1 choice is worth money. Birmingham, Solihull and Coventry run on the M40 through Warwick; Wolverhampton, Walsall and the Black Country run on the M1 to the M6, which is the most congestion-prone stretch of motorway we drive. On Black Country destinations we load early enough to clear the M6 around Spaghetti Junction before the afternoon build-up, because two hours stationary on the M6 is two hours of crew time you would rather not pay for.

We size the vehicle before we quote

On a one-trip corridor an undersized van is a disaster, not an inconvenience. We work out volume properly so the whole load leaves London in one vehicle.

M40 or M6 — we pick for the clock

Birmingham and Coventry go via the M40. Black Country destinations cross the M6, so we load early to clear Spaghetti Junction before it seizes.

Birmingham Clean Air Zone, quoted upfront

Any address inside the A4540 ring may attract a CAZ charge. It is itemised with your price when you book, never discovered on the invoice.

Same crew all the way

No transfer at a midlands depot. The team that loads in London unloads in Solihull, so nothing is handled by strangers en route.

Access notes we plan around in West Midlands

  • Birmingham Clean Air Zone: addresses inside the A4540 ring may attract a daily charge, quoted upfront.
  • M6 around Junction 6: we schedule the load time to avoid sitting in it on billable crew hours.
  • Black Country hill streets (Dudley, Halesowen): gradient limits where a loaded 18-tonne can stop.
  • City-centre apartments (Jewellery Quarter, Digbeth): goods lifts are booked with the concierge in advance.

About the destination

About West Midlands in brief

The West Midlands is Britain's second urban region: 2.9 million people across Birmingham, Coventry, Wolverhampton, Solihull and the Black Country boroughs. HS2 and a decade of city-centre development have pulled London households north in real numbers, particularly to Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter and Digbeth and to Solihull's family suburbs. For us it is the corridor where a London flat's rent buys a Midlands house, so the loads tend to be upsizes rather than downsizes.
