Wallpaper hanging London

Wallpaper hanging in London prepped properly, matched at every seam.

Feature walls, panoramic murals, textured papers and full rooms hung across Greater London. Walls are tested, filled and sized before the first drop goes up, because in a city of lime plaster, chalky distemper and out-of-plumb corners the prep is what decides whether the paper is still flat next year.

London pricing

London wallpapering prices.

Labour prices, assuming you supply the paper — we can order it at cost if you prefer. Prep is priced separately and honestly, because pretending a chalky Victorian wall needs no lining is how a job fails within a month.
London wallpaper hanging prices by room type and preparation
JobLondon fromTypical timeWhy the London price differs
Feature wall, plain or small repeat£1803–4 hrsOne wall, but lining, sizing and filling are most of the work and all of the finish.
Feature wall, large repeat or mural£2604–6 hrsPanels must be hung in order and matched across the drop; a mural gives you no second chance.
Average bedroom, four walls£4501 dayLondon corners are rarely plumb, so every internal corner is overlapped and re-plumbed.
Hallway and stairwell£6201–2 daysLong drops over a flight need a stair platform and two decorators, not a ladder.
Cross-lining before painting, per wall£1202–3 hrsHides the ripples in old lime plaster that a modern emulsion would otherwise show up.
Stripping old paper, per room£1503–5 hrsSteaming, scraping and washing down, plus repairing whatever the old paper was hiding.

Domestic prices are the total you pay. Commercial and landlord invoices are quoted plus VAT at 20%. ULEZ, the Congestion Charge where it applies, permits and bay suspensions are itemised in the written quote, never added afterwards.

Working in London

What is behind a London wall.

Three things ruin wallpaper in London homes: damp, chalky distemper and corners that are 8mm out over two metres. All three are found before the paper is ordered, not after it is hung.

Lime plaster and distemper in the period stock

Terraces in Hackney, Islington, Lambeth and Camden often still carry original lime plaster with layers of distemper under later paint. Paste will not grip distemper: the paper lifts at the seams within weeks.

We test a patch with a wet sponge before quoting. Where it is chalky, the wall is washed back and sealed, or cross-lined first — and that is on the quote, not sprung on you mid-job.

Cold walls and condensation in the post-war flats

Solid-wall blocks across Southwark, Newham and Barking have cold external walls where condensation forms behind furniture. Paper hung over that will show mould at the seams by February.

We check with a moisture meter, and where the reading is high we will say so and recommend the insulation or ventilation fix first rather than take the booking.

Murals and out-of-square new-build rooms

New-build flats around Nine Elms, Wembley Park and the Greenwich Peninsula have flat, dry plasterboard that papers beautifully — but the rooms are often not square, and a panoramic mural shows a 10mm run-off immediately.

The first drop is set to a plumbed line, and the run-off is distributed across the wall where it cannot be seen instead of stacking up in one corner.

Access, odour and managing agents

Concierge buildings across Westminster, Kensington and Canary Wharf need a public liability certificate and often a booking for the goods lift. We send the certificate at booking and work to the building's hours.

Low-odour, solvent-free pastes are standard, which matters when the flat is occupied and the windows face a light well rather than the street.

How it works

Three steps and a written price.

Booking wallpaper hanging in london takes three steps — you get a fixed written figure before anyone is sent, and the price on the page is the price on the invoice.
  1. 1

Tell us the postcode and the job

Send photographs or a short video with your London postcode. It takes a couple of minutes and there is nothing to pay to ask.

  2. 2

    Get a fixed written price

We come back with one figure for wallpaper hanging in london — ULEZ, the Congestion Charge and disposal or materials already inside it, with any council permit shown at cost.

  3. 3

Book the slot that suits you

Pick a morning or afternoon window, including evenings and weekends. You get a named team, a text before arrival and paperwork on completion.

London questions

London wallpapering questions.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions.

  • How much does wallpapering cost in London?

A feature wall is £180 for a plain paper or small repeat, £260 for a large repeat or a panoramic mural. An average bedroom of four walls is £450 and takes a day; a hallway and stairwell is from £620. Those are labour prices with paste, sizing and filler included.

  • Do I supply the wallpaper?

Usually yes, and we will tell you exactly how many rolls to order once we have measured, allowing for the pattern repeat. If you would rather we ordered it, we buy at trade and pass the cost through at what we paid, shown on the invoice.

  • Do you strip the old paper first?

Yes, priced separately at £150 a room so you can see what the prep costs. Stripping usually exposes filled cracks and blown patches; we show you those and quote the repair before the new paper is ordered rather than papering over them.

  • Can you hang a mural?

Yes. Murals are hung panel by panel in strict sequence from a plumbed centre line, with the run-off distributed rather than dumped in one corner. We ask for the manufacturer's hanging notes at booking because paste-the-wall and paste-the-paper murals behave completely differently.

  • Will you paper over damp?

No. Paper hung over an active damp problem will lift and grow mould within a season, so we test with a moisture meter first and tell you what the reading is. Fixing the cause is cheaper than doing the room twice.

  • Do you move the furniture?

We move light furniture into the centre of the room and sheet it, and lift and refit switch and socket plates so the paper runs behind them rather than being cut around them. Heavy items such as wardrobes and pianos need to be moved before we arrive.
