London pricing

London carpet fitting prices.

Fitting labour, priced by area and by stair count. You can buy your own carpet or we can supply at cost; either way the gripper, underlay tape and doorbars are in the price.
London carpet fitting prices by room size, stairs and disposal
JobLondon fromTypical timeWhy the London price differs
Single room up to 12m²£1201.5–2.5 hrsGripper, underlay, one seam at most, and a doorbar at each threshold.
Room 12–20m²£1802–3 hrsA wider room needs a seam, and a seam is where a bad fit shows first.
Straight staircase, 13 treads£2203–4 hrsEvery tread and riser is cut and kicked individually.
Landing and stairs together£3204–6 hrsPriced as one job because the landing has to run into the top tread invisibly.
Uplift and disposal, per room£4520–40 minOld carpet and underlay go to a licensed transfer station with a waste transfer note.
Door trimming, per door£2515–25 minNew underlay adds height; the door comes off, is planed and rehung so it clears.

Domestic prices are the total you pay. Commercial and landlord invoices are quoted plus VAT at 20%. ULEZ, the Congestion Charge where it applies, permits and bay suspensions are itemised in the written quote, never added afterwards.

Working in London

What London floors are hiding.

Lift a London carpet and you find one of four things, and each one changes the day: original boards with gaps, a chipboard overlay, a bitumen-backed 1970s tile, or a damp solid slab.

Victorian boards and the draught underneath

Terraces across Walthamstow, Tooting, Peckham and Acton usually have original pine boards with 3–5mm gaps that pull cold air up through the underlay. Carpet laid straight onto them feels cold and shows every board line within a year.

We screw down anything that creaks and recommend a hardboard or ply overlay where the gaps are severe, quoted before the carpet is ordered.

Stairs with winders

The classic London terrace staircase turns at the bottom or the top on winder treads. Each winder is a separate template and takes roughly twice as long as a straight tread, which is why a flight is never priced by a single per-tread figure.

Runners with a rod-and-bracket finish are a common alternative here, and they price differently again because the stripped edges have to be sanded and finished.

Leases that require carpet

Many London leases require carpet with underlay across living areas for sound insulation, and managing agents in Westminster, Camden and Tower Hamlets increasingly ask for the underlay specification in writing after a noise complaint.

We note the underlay tog and thickness on the invoice so you have that evidence without having to chase the supplier.

Access, lifts and delivery days

A 4m roll does not fit in a domestic lift, and in many blocks it does not turn on the stairs either. We check the roll length against the access before booking and, where necessary, cut it down at the van.

We also book fitting to match your carpet delivery day, so rolls are not left standing in a communal hallway where the building manager will remove them.

How it works

Three steps and a written price.

Booking carpet fitting in london takes three steps — you get a fixed written figure before anyone is sent, and the price on the page is the price on the invoice.
  1. 1

Tell us the postcode and the job

Send photographs or a short video with your London postcode. It takes a couple of minutes and there is nothing to pay to ask.

  2. 2

    Get a fixed written price

We come back with one figure for carpet fitting in london — ULEZ, the Congestion Charge and disposal or materials already inside it, with any council permit shown at cost.

  3. 3

Book the slot that suits you

Pick a morning or afternoon window, including evenings and weekends. You get a named team, a text before arrival and paperwork on completion.

London questions

London carpet fitting questions.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions.

  • How much does carpet fitting cost in London?

£120 for a room up to 12m², £180 for 12–20m², £220 for a straight 13-tread staircase and £320 for stairs and landing together. Uplift and disposal of the old carpet is £45 a room. Those are labour prices; the carpet and underlay are separate.

  • Do you supply the carpet?

You can buy your own and we will fit it, or we can supply carpet and underlay at cost with the invoice attached. Most London customers buy the carpet themselves and book us to fit on the delivery day so nothing sits rolled up in a hallway.

  • Do you take the old carpet away?

Yes, £45 a room. It leaves under our upper-tier waste carrier registration and you get a waste transfer note the same day. That matters in a block: carpet left in a communal area usually results in a clearance charge back to the leaseholder.

  • Can you carpet a staircase with winders?

Yes. A straight flight is £220; winder treads at the turn are templated and cut individually, so they are quoted on the survey. We will always tell you the winder cost before the carpet is ordered.

  • Will the doors still close?

If the new underlay is thicker than the old, no — so we trim doors for £25 each. The door comes off its hinges, is planed to the right clearance and rehung, rather than being scraped over the pile until the carpet wears through.

  • What if the floorboards underneath are bad?

We screw down loose boards as part of the fitting. Rotten boards, an unlevel screed or damp in a solid floor are shown to you with photographs and quoted separately — laying new carpet over a damp slab guarantees a smell within a season.
