Council bulky rounds usually refuse them outright
Most London boroughs will not take a fridge, freezer or air-conditioning unit in a standard bulky-waste collection and instead run a separate, slower booking route for WEEE items, because the refrigerant has to be dealt with before the unit reaches a scrapyard.
We collect fridges and freezers on the same visit as anything else and take them straight to a facility set up for the degassing step, rather than routing them through a general waste round.
