A cooker is three cleaning jobs in one appliance

A freestanding cooker combines a hob, a grill and an oven cavity, and each one soils differently. Boil-over sugars weld to the hotplate, grill pans carbonise from above rather than below, and burner crowns clog at the jets — which is what causes the yellow, lifting flame people mistake for a gas fault.

We strip the removable parts into the heated tank, clear the burner ports, degrease the hotplate and splashback, clean the grill compartment and runners, then rebuild and light-test every burner. Freestanding cookers are pulled forward where the gas hose and flooring allow, so the sides and the gap either side get cleaned too.

  • Burner crowns, caps and cast pan supports dip-tanked and ports cleared
  • Hotplate, splashback and control fascia degreased by hand
  • Grill compartment, pan and runners cleaned top and bottom
  • Oven cavity, shelves and inner door glass detailed
  • Cooker pulled forward where safe, sides and floor gap cleaned
  • Burners relit and flame checked, appliance rebuilt and tested

How a cooker clean works

  1. Step 1

    Describe the cooker

Gas or electric, freestanding or slot-in, single or double cavity, plus any range width.

  2. Step 2

    Strip the top

Crowns, caps, pan supports and grill parts come out to the heated tank in the van.

  3. Step 3

    Degrease and clear

Hotplate, splashback and cavity hand-cleaned; burner ports cleared so the flame runs blue.

  4. Step 4

    Rebuild and light-test

Parts refitted dry, every burner and the grill tested, floor and worktop wiped down.

Two to three hours for a typical freestanding cooker; longer for a 90cm or 110cm range with cast supports.

Your cooker clean checklist

Before we arrive

  • Let the hob and grill go completely cold
  • Clear pans and utensils from the hotplate and surrounding worktop
  • Tell us if the cooker is gas, electric, induction or dual fuel
  • Say whether it is freestanding, slot-in or a wide range

Safety and access

  • Confirm we may pull the cooker forward — flexible gas hoses set the limit
  • Point out cracked ceramic glass or loose knobs before we start
  • Tell us about stone or vinyl flooring so we sheet it correctly

Between visits

  • Lift boil-overs off the hotplate while it is warm, not baked
  • Wash burner caps weekly so the ports never clog
  • Line the grill pan with foil, never the burner or element

On the ground in Greater Manchester

Terraced galley kitchens in Bolton, Bury and Oldham

Pre-war terraces across Farnworth, Radcliffe and Chadderton usually run a freestanding cooker wedged between two units with a two-centimetre gap either side. That gap holds years of fat. We pull the cooker forward where the gas hose allows and clean the sides, the plinth and the floor beneath it as part of the job.

Range cookers in Trafford and Stockport family homes

Ninety- and 110-centimetre ranges are common in Hale, Bowdon, Bramhall and Marple. They carry heavy cast pan supports and two or three cavities, so they are priced as a range from the start — nobody gets a single-oven quote and a bill for something else.

Letting stock across Wigan, Leigh and Salford

Agents managing terraced lets around Leigh, Atherton and Pendleton book the cooker between tenancies because it is the item most likely to fail an inventory. We photograph the hotplate, grill and cavity so the file is complete before the next tenant moves in.

Cooker cleaning FAQs

  • What does cooker cleaning cost in Greater Manchester?

A single-cavity freestanding cooker starts at £65 and a double or range cooker at £95. Adding the extractor above it is from £35 on the same visit.

  • Do you clean the hob as well as the oven?

Yes. On a freestanding cooker the hotplate, burners, caps, crowns and pan supports are part of the same job. A separate built-in hob next to a built-in oven is charged as the hob and extractor line.

  • Will you move the cooker out?

Where the flexible gas hose, electrical lead and flooring allow, yes — that is how the sides and the floor gap get cleaned. If the hose is short or the flooring is fragile, we clean everything reachable and tell you what we could not move.

  • My gas flame is yellow and lifting. Can cleaning fix it?

Usually. Yellow, lifting flames are normally blocked burner ports rather than a supply fault. We clear the ports and light-test each burner. If the flame is still wrong afterwards we tell you plainly to call a Gas Safe engineer.

  • Can you clean ceramic and induction tops?

Yes, with non-abrasive pads and a dedicated ceramic cream. We lift burnt sugar and metal-marking without scratching the glass, and we will flag any existing cracks or chips before starting.

  • Is it safe around children and pets?

Yes. Nothing caustic is used indoors, there are no fumes, and every technician is insured and DBS-checked.

  • Can it be booked with an end of tenancy or deep clean?

Yes, and that is usually the cheapest route — one visit, one call-out, all appliances handled by the same crew.

  • Do you cover the outer boroughs?

All ten boroughs, 115 areas, from Blackrod and Standish through to Mossley, Longdendale and Uppermill.
