Moving in East Sussex

An East Sussex removal is planned from the street before it is planned from the room list. In Brighton that means a controlled parking zone almost everywhere, a bay suspension applied for days in advance or a costed carry from the nearest legal stopping point, and a shared staircase with a half-landing turn that decides whether a sofa leaves through the door or through a window. In Hastings and Lewes it means twittens, cobbles and pedestrian-only lanes where no van reaches the door at all. We survey access, agree the vehicle and give you a written volume-based price.

Away from the historic cores the work is more conventional and we say so: Eastbourne's wide avenues, Bexhill and Seaford's bungalows, and the post-war estates at Hampden Park, Langney, Hollington and Ridgewood all load at the door. We also handle office moves along the A27 corridor and packing services — full pack, part pack or materials only — for the long-distance moves that leave the county.

The routes that shape an East Sussex move

Three pieces of geography govern timing here. The A27 is the county's only continuous east–west road and its junctions at Lewes, Polegate and Beddingham are the pinch points, so cross-county moves are scheduled around them rather than through them. The Ouse crossings at Newhaven — including the swing bridge, which lifts for shipping — can hold a timed job. And the South Downs mean there is no fast direct route between the coast and the Wealden towns; a Brighton-to-Crowborough move runs a longer way round than the map suggests. We build that into the quote instead of discovering it on the day.

Parking suspensions and permits

Brighton and Hove enforces controlled parking across nearly the whole built-up area, and a removal bay suspension has to be applied for in advance — same-day is not realistic. Where a suspension is not in place we price the carry honestly rather than gambling on a space. Outside the city, Eastbourne, Hastings, Lewes and Rother each run their own on-street rules, and the seafront bays in Eastbourne and Bexhill fill early in summer, which is why coastal moves there start early in the day.

Moving services and East Sussex prices

Indicative starting prices. Your fixed quote reflects size, floor level and access — the East Sussex realities we survey before booking, not after.

Also available across East Sussex: Long Distance Moves. These are booked through the same team and quoted the same way — ask for them when you request a price.

Common questions

Moving in East Sussex, answered.

  • Do I need a parking suspension for a Brighton removal?

Usually yes, and it must be applied for in advance — Brighton and Hove's controlled zones cover almost the whole city and enforcement is quick. If a suspension is not possible for your street we quote the carry from the nearest legal stopping point and tell you the distance before you book.

  • Can you get a van to an Old Town address in Hastings or a twitten in Lewes?

Often not to the door, and we will tell you that when quoting rather than on the day. Those jobs run as a shuttle from a legal stopping point, sometimes with a smaller vehicle. Nothing about the access shows on a floor plan, so we check the street first.

  • How do you price a move in East Sussex?

On volume, carry distance, floors, lifts and access — written down before the day. Packing, materials, dismantling and reassembly are itemised separately. The agreed figure holds unless what we find is materially different from what you described.

  • Do you move between East Sussex and London?

Yes, regularly. Those jobs enter the London ULEZ, so we allocate a compliant vehicle and show any charge in the quote rather than adding it afterwards. No part of East Sussex itself is inside the zone.

  • Are my belongings insured in transit?

Yes — we carry goods-in-transit and public liability cover, and certificates are available on request. Managed blocks in Brighton, Eastbourne and Bexhill often ask to see them before letting a crew in, so we send them ahead where that applies.

Fantastic cleaning job from Jose. Very pleased with the result! We’ve struggled with a few really tricky spots such as grime on the window frames and limescale on the shower screen, but these are now looking spotless! Would definitely use again, and would recommend to friends and family.
