What we can show you for Braintree

Here is what our removals work around Braintree looks like in practice.

  • Braintree access and housing notes

CM7 housing stock and loading reality, written for Braintree rather than the county.

Removals in Braintree: what actually matters here

A former wool and silk town at the junction of two Roman roads, with weavers' cottages near the centre and large modern estates spreading toward Great Notley.

The housing stock is Timber-framed and rendered cottages in the old centre, with 1990s–2010s estate housing at Great Notley, which decides the tools, protection and crew size we bring to a removals job.

The historic centre has narrow one-way streets with short loading windows, while the newer Great Notley estates have tight turning heads that suit a 3.5t Luton rather than a 7.5t lorry.

A removals in Braintree is planned around the two ends of the day — access here and access wherever the load is going.

Braintree is quoted as a whole: Braintree town centre, Great Notley, Bocking and Black Notley are on the same removals rate as anywhere else inside CM7.

Crews covering Braintree also work witham, chelmsford and colchester, so a removals slot here is usually part of a local Essex round rather than a long trip out — which is why short-notice and midweek slots are realistic.

Braintree is a mid-sized town; the streets around Braintree Town Hall and Warner Textile Archive are the ones where we most often check loading arrangements in advance.

Further out, Cressing, Rayne, High Garrett and Panfield sit inside the same footprint — same crews, same fixed removals pricing.

A removals booking that starts in Braintree and finishes in saffron-walden and maldon is priced as one local job, not two.

We ask for the full Braintree address rather than just CM7, because the loading point is what sets the removals time on site.

Our Braintree coverage is recorded down to Braintree town centre (CM7), Great Notley (CM77) and Bocking (CM7), which is how we judge access and timing for a removals slot.

The Braintree sheet lists 12 areas; Braintree town centre and Chapel Hill sit at opposite ends of it, and the removals price is the same across all of them.

If the Braintree diary is full on the day you want, the same crew is usually in witham or chelmsford that week, so the wait is days rather than weeks.

What a removals job includes

A house removal is a surveyed, fixed-price job, not an hourly booking: we look at the property, count the volume, work out the access at both ends and quote one number — from £340 for a studio or one-bed, from £520 for a two-bed, and from £780 for a three-bed with a crew of three for the day. Crews carry blankets, straps and trolleys as standard and dismantle and reassemble standard beds and tables as part of the price, with goods in transit cover of £10k per load and £1m public liability in place before anything is loaded.

Before moving day

  • Video or in-person survey, then a fixed written price that does not move unless you add work
  • Volume, crew size and van count planned from the survey rather than guessed on the day
  • Access checked at both ends — parking, lift booking, floor level, stair width
  • A written plan for what gets dismantled and what travels assembled

On the day

  • Floors, banisters and door frames protected on the carry route
  • Furniture blanket-wrapped, mattresses bagged, mirrors and glass carried between boards
  • Standard beds, wardrobes and tables dismantled and rebuilt at the new address
  • Boxes placed in the labelled room, not stacked in the hall

At the new address

  • Large furniture positioned where you want it before the crew leaves
  • Beds rebuilt so the first night does not happen on a mattress on the floor
  • Blankets, boards and our own packaging taken away
  • A signed job sheet recording condition and completion

What changes the price on a removals job

  • Access is the second half. No lift above the third floor, a permit-only street, a long carry from the nearest legal stopping point or a lift that must be booked with a building manager all add crew hours — we would rather find that at survey than at 8am on moving day.
  • Completion-day timing is outside anyone's control. Keys held up by a solicitor happen; we plan a realistic start, and the honest answer is that the crew can only load once you can hand over access.
  • Parking, congestion charge and ULEZ where genuinely incurred are itemised at cost and never marked up. They are the only pass-through on a removal.
  • Pianos, safes, large aquariums and full-size gym equipment are specialist lifts quoted separately, and we do not carry fuel, gas bottles or hazardous goods in a stacked load.
  • Volume, not distance, sets a removal price. A cluttered two-bed with a full loft and garage can be a bigger job than a tidy three-bed, which is why we survey rather than price from bedroom count.

About Braintree

Braintree grew as a wool and silk town where two Roman roads crossed, and CM7 still shows it. The old centre and Bocking hold timber-framed and rendered cottages with low door heads, uneven floors and staircases never designed for a modern king-size bed, while the belt out to Great Notley and Rayne is 1990s–2010s estate housing with dot-and-dab walls, trussed roofs and small integral garages. A bed assembly in one half of the town and the same job in the other need different fixings and different amounts of dismantling.

Access divides the same way. The historic streets are narrow and one-way with short loading windows, so town-centre work is booked early and, where a cottage has no stopping place at all, staged with a shuttle. The Notley estates are easy to reach but have tight turning heads and parking-court entries that suit a 3.5-tonne Luton. Clearance waste leaves on our own licence with a transfer note, so there is no Essex County Council tip slot to book and no van permit to apply for. Braintree crews also cover Witham, Halstead, Coggeshall and Great Dunmow.

Common questions

Braintree questions, answered.

  • How much does removals cost in Braintree?

Removals in Braintree (CM7) starts from £45 per hour. The final figure is fixed before booking and reflects the size of the property, the floor level and the access — which in Braintree usually means the historic centre has narrow one-way streets with short loading windows, while the newer Great Notley estates have tight turning heads that suit a 3.5t Luton rather than a 7.5t lorry.

  • Do you cover the whole of Braintree?

Yes — every CM7 street, plus the surrounding Essex towns. Crews are routed within the county rather than dispatched from London, so short-notice slots are realistic.

  • Are you insured for removals work?

We carry £1m public liability cover and hold Environment Agency waste carrier licence CBDU300454. Certificates are available on request and the details are published on our trust and credentials page.

  • How quickly can you book removals in Braintree?

Same-week slots are standard in Braintree, with next-day often available midweek. Month-end tenancy changeovers are the busiest window across Essex, so book those a week or two ahead.

  • Why survey instead of just quoting by bedrooms?

Because bedroom count does not tell us volume or access, and those are what the day actually costs. A ten-minute video walk-round gives you a fixed price we stand behind rather than an estimate that moves once the van is half full.

  • Do you pack as well?

Packing is a separate service, priced per packer per hour or as a fixed price by property size, and it can be booked for the whole house, for the kitchen and fragiles only, or not at all. Keeping it separate means you are not paying for packing you intend to do yourself.

  • What is covered if something is damaged?

Goods in transit cover of £10k per load applies to everything in the van, with £1m public liability alongside it. Anything already damaged is noted with you before loading, and anything raised within 24 hours is put right rather than argued about.

  • Can the move run over two days?

Yes, and for larger homes it is often the sensible plan — pack and load non-essentials on day one, complete on day two. It is quoted as one job, with the overnight load staying secured in the van or in storage as agreed in writing.

Practical reading before you book in Braintree — costs, checklists and what a good job actually looks like.
