An Essex move is rarely decided by mileage. It is decided by what happens in the first and last twenty metres: how close a Luton can legally stop, how many stairs there are, whether the lift is big enough for a wardrobe, and whether the destination is a driveway or a permit bay that needs suspending. We ask about those things when we quote — floor level, lift dimensions, carry distance, parking restrictions and any gate, barrier or bollard between the road and the door — and we price the crew size and the load window against them.

That covers full house removals with a two, three or four-person crew, single-item and part-load man-with-a-van work, professional packing with materials supplied, dismantle and reassemble of beds and flat-pack furniture, and office and commercial relocations scheduled out of hours where a business cannot lose a working day. Goods in transit and public liability cover apply throughout, and the price we agree is the price you pay unless you add to the job.

Where our Essex removals cover is strongest

Chelmsford, Brentwood, Basildon, Colchester and Southend-on-Sea carry the deepest removals cover, and each brings a different constraint. Chelmsford's riverside blocks are served by underground car parks with 2.0m height barriers, so van height is confirmed before booking. Basildon's new-town courts put front doors 20–40 metres from the nearest legal stopping point, which changes the load window rather than the price. Colchester's Dutch Quarter and North Hill are narrow and steep enough that larger loads are staged with a shuttle van. Southend's cliff roads are permit zones where a full removal needs bay suspension arranged in advance.

Harlow, Grays, Rayleigh, Billericay, Witham, Braintree, Wickford, Maldon, Loughton, Chigwell, Epping, Clacton-on-Sea and Saffron Walden are covered on the same terms, with the north-west Essex conservation-area towns quoted for a two-person carry as standard because of narrow doorways and winding stairs.

Commuter moves in and out of London

A large share of Essex moving work crosses the Greater London boundary in one direction or the other, and the county's geography makes that predictable. The Central line towns — Loughton, Chigwell and Epping — sit in Epping Forest district, outside Greater London and outside the ULEZ, so no daily charge applies to work inside them; a job that continues over the boundary into Redbridge, Waltham Forest or Havering does attract one, and we check the destination before allocating a van rather than after. The Elizabeth line at Shenfield and Brentwood, and the Greater Anglia line through Chelmsford, Witham and Colchester, mean weekday morning parking near those stations is saturated well before 08:00, so loading windows are set around it. From Thurrock and Grays, anything crossing the river uses the Dartford Crossing and carries the Dart Charge. All three costs — ULEZ where it genuinely applies, Dart Charge, and any permit or bay suspension — appear inside your fixed quote before you accept it, never as a surcharge afterwards.

Moving in Essex, answered.

  • Will I be charged ULEZ for a move in Loughton, Chigwell or Epping?

    No. Those three towns are in Epping Forest district — outside Greater London and outside the ULEZ boundary — so no daily charge applies to work within them. If your move crosses into a London borough, the charge applies to that leg and is shown inside your fixed quote before you book.

  • Who pays the Dartford Crossing charge on a Thurrock or Grays move?

    It is included in your quote. Any job crossing the river from Thurrock or Grays carries the Dart Charge, and we add it to the fixed price you see up front rather than invoicing it separately afterwards.

  • Do you arrange parking permits or bay suspensions in Essex?

    We tell you when one is needed and how to arrange it with the council, and on Southend's cliff roads and Chelmsford's inner-ring streets we recommend doing it a week ahead. The permit or suspension is issued to the property, so it has to be applied for in the resident's or agent's name, but the cost is shown in your quote.

  • Can you move a flat with no lift or a long carry?

    Yes — Harlow and Basildon walk-ups and Maldon's hill are routine for us. Long carries and stairs change the crew size and the load window, both of which we set when we survey the job, so a fourth-floor flat is quoted honestly rather than under-quoted and then surcharged.

  • Is my furniture insured while it is in the van?

    Yes. Goods in transit cover applies for the duration of the move alongside our £1m public liability insurance. Items you pack yourself are covered for damage caused in handling; we cannot cover breakage inside a box we did not pack, which is why fragile items are best left to our packing service.

  • How much notice do you need for an Essex house removal?

    Same-week slots are normal midweek across the main towns. Fridays and the last working day of the month are the first to go, so book those two to three weeks ahead if your completion date is fixed.
