Man with a Van across Essex
The Essex man-with-a-van job is rarely a whole house: it is a student load out of a Colchester CO1 house share in June, a sofa from a Lakeside collection point in Thurrock, or a one-bed flat move between Southend and Rayleigh that a full removals crew would over-serve.

Why Essex customers book us
The clock starts at your door
Not at our depot and not when the van sets off. Two-hour minimum, then billed in 30-minute blocks, with travel between your two addresses included.
Movers who actually move things
Our drivers load, carry and stack. You are not paying for someone to sit in the cab while you carry your own wardrobe down three flights.
Stairs and lifts included
No floor-level surcharge for Harlow walk-ups, Southend seafront flats or Basildon courts — the rate covers the carry.
Blankets, straps and trolleys as standard
Furniture is wrapped and strapped even on a two-hour job, and we carry goods in transit cover on every load.

How booking works
- 1
Tell us the load and both addresses
A rough item list, the floor levels and whether there is a lift. That tells us whether one mover or two is honest for the job.
- 2
Book the slot
Morning or afternoon arrival window, confirmed with the rate and the minimum. Same-day is often possible midweek across Essex.
- 3
Load, move, place
We wrap and strap, drive, and put items where you want them. You are billed for the time used after the two-hour minimum.

Man with a Van in Essex
Man with a van suits Essex particularly well because so much of the county's movement is short-hop and awkward rather than long and large. Colchester's two universities generate a June and September wave of part-load moves through CO1 to CO4, often out of shared houses on streets where a full removals lorry cannot turn. Southend, Leigh and Westcliff produce a steady flow of one-bed flat moves between seafront conversions where the stairwell, not the distance, decides how long the job takes.
The western edge behaves differently again. Around Loughton, Chigwell, Grays and Tilbury, a large share of jobs cross into Greater London, where the ULEZ applies to the destination and the Dartford Crossing charge applies to anything heading south from Thurrock. Those charges are shown in the quote up front. Everywhere else in the county — Chelmsford, Braintree, Witham, Maldon, Clacton — there is no travel surcharge inside Essex at all.

Man with a Van in Essex — your questions.
Is there a minimum charge?
Two hours, charged from when we arrive at your first address. After that we bill in 30-minute blocks, so a job that runs two hours forty minutes is not rounded up to a half day.
Will the driver help me carry?
Yes — that is the service. Our movers load, carry, stack and place. If the load is heavy or the carry is long, book two movers; it is usually cheaper than one mover taking twice as long.
How much fits in the van?
A Luton typically takes a studio or a compact one-bed in a single load. If you are near the line, send a photo of the rooms and we will tell you honestly whether it is one trip or two.
Can you do same-day or evening collections?
Frequently, especially midweek. Marketplace and Lakeside collections, single-item deliveries and short-notice student loads are normal same-day work for us across the county.
When should I book full removals instead?
From a two-bed upwards, or when you want packing, dismantling and rebuild included. A fixed-price house removal usually beats an open-ended hourly job at that size, and we will say so rather than run the clock.
