Essex behaves as two removals markets. The western edge — Loughton, Chigwell, Epping and the Thurrock riverside — moves like outer London: short-distance jobs that frequently cross into Redbridge, Waltham Forest or Havering, where the ULEZ applies to the destination even though those Epping Forest towns sit outside it. Thurrock moves that cross the river carry the Dartford Crossing charge. Both are priced in before you accept, not invoiced afterwards.

East of Brentwood, the county is a chain of self-contained towns and the constraint becomes access. Colchester's Dutch Quarter lanes will not take a 7.5-tonne vehicle, Southend's cliff roads are permit-controlled, Harlow and Basildon's new-town layouts routinely put the nearest legal stopping point 20 to 40 metres from the front door, and Maldon's hill rules out parking at the property entirely for some addresses. We survey all of that and size the crew and vehicle accordingly, which is why our fixed prices stay fixed.

  • How far ahead should I book an Essex move?

    Two to four weeks for a weekday, longer for a Friday or month-end — those are the busiest slots across Chelmsford, Colchester, Southend and Basildon. We do take short-notice moves when a chain moves suddenly, and we will tell you honestly what is left.

  • What happens if completion is delayed on the day?

    We wait. Chain delays are normal and we do not restart the clock or add a waiting fee to a fixed-price move. If keys genuinely do not release, we discuss overnight storage in the vehicle or in our facility.

  • Do you charge for the Dartford Crossing or ULEZ?

    Only where they genuinely apply, and always shown inside the quote. Loughton, Chigwell and Epping are outside the ULEZ; a move from there into a London borough is not, and a Thurrock job crossing the river carries the crossing charge.

  • Will you dismantle and rebuild furniture?

    Yes — beds, wardrobes, tables and flat-pack units are dismantled at the old address and rebuilt at the new one as part of the move. Older glued flat-pack that will not survive a second build is flagged before we take it apart.

  • Can you move me from Essex to another part of the UK?

    Yes. Long-distance moves out of Essex are quoted as a fixed price including mileage and, where the distance requires it, an overnight — see our long-distance page for how those are planned.
