Riverside and city-centre apartment blocks in Chelmsford operate loading bays and 2.0m car-park barriers with booked windows; Colchester's older terraces and Dutch Quarter streets have no realistic place for a lorry to wait; and seafront conversions in Southend and Leigh often share a single stairwell with other flats. In all three, a move that begins with half the kitchen unpacked loses the slot.

The second Essex pattern is distance. Long-distance departures from the county, and the European moves we run out of Harwich and the Thurrock ports, are packed to a higher standard because the load is handled more times and travels further — double-walled cartons on fragiles, and an inventory list that matches what a customs or receiving agent expects to see. Local Chelmsford-to-Witham moves do not need that, and we do not charge for it.

  • How long does packing a house take?

    A studio or one-bed is typically a single packer for most of a day; a two-bed is two packers for a half day; a three-bed is two packers for a full day. Kitchens and lofts are the two rooms that most often add time.

  • Do I have to buy the boxes from you?

    No, but we supply them at cost with the receipts and credit back anything unused. Supermarket boxes are usually the wrong strength and are the most common cause of a crushed load.

  • Can you pack just the kitchen and fragile items?

    Yes, and it is the most popular option in Essex. You pack clothes, books and soft goods; we handle china, glass, mirrors and art with the correct materials.

  • Will you unpack at the other end?

    Yes, charged by the hour. We normally reinstate the kitchen and wardrobes first, then work room by room, and we flatten and remove the empty boxes when we leave.

  • Is my property insured while it is being packed?

    Yes — £1m public liability cover plus goods in transit cover on the load. Items you have packed yourself are handled with the same care but cannot carry the same packing warranty, which we explain before you decide.
