A West Sussex move is planned from the street first. Crawley is the easy end: a new town laid out for vehicles, with estate roads, turning heads, driveways and garage courts, so the quote is about volume, floors and lifts rather than carry distance. Worthing's suburbs at Goring, Durrington and Broadwater are the same. The seafront blocks in BN11 are not — those are metered or permit bays outside, a shared entrance, and in the managed blocks a lift that has to be booked with the agent.

Horsham and Chichester need the most planning and get it. Horsham's Carfax and Causeway and Chichester's walled Roman grid are both pedestrianised with timed vehicle access and lined with narrow, listed frontages, so we agree a loading window in advance or price a shuttle from a car park and tell you which it is. We also run office moves along the A23, A24 and A27 corridors, and packing services — full pack, part pack or materials only — for moves leaving the county.

The routes and pinch points that shape a West Sussex move

Three things govern timing here. The A23 and the M23 around Crawley carry Gatwick traffic and back up around the airport at shift-change times, so Crawley jobs are scheduled away from them where the date allows. The A27 along the coast between Worthing and Chichester is the only continuous east–west route on that side of the Downs and its junctions are the bottleneck for any cross-county job. And the South Downs sit between the coastal towns and the Wealden ones, so a Worthing-to-Haywards Heath move runs further than the map suggests. We build all three into the quote rather than discovering them on the day.

Loading windows, permits and station overspill

Three towns need the kerb arranged in advance. Horsham and Chichester both have timed access into a pedestrianised centre, and a listed frontage there cannot be blocked for three hours — a loading window is agreed with the district council or the job is shuttled. Haywards Heath's problem is different: commuter parking fills the station-side streets in RH16 from before seven in the morning, so we start early or arrange a bay rather than quoting a time we cannot keep. Worthing's central seafront is controlled parking with managing-agent rules inside the blocks. Crawley, by contrast, almost always loads at the door.

  • How early do you start a move in Haywards Heath?

    Early, near the station. Commuter overspill takes the kerb space in RH16 from before seven, so a station-side move either starts before that or works from an arranged bay. Away from the station — Bolnore Village, Franklands Village, Lucastes — normal start times are fine.

  • Do you handle moves around Gatwick shift patterns?

    Yes. A large share of the Crawley rental market is let to airport and hotel staff on rotating shifts, so evening, early-morning and weekend moves are normal bookings for us in RH10 and RH11.

  • Is a move priced by the hour?

    No. We quote on volume, floors, lifts and carry distance, in writing, before the day. That way a long carry from a Chichester car park or a third-floor Worthing flat with no lift is in the price you agreed rather than added as overtime afterwards.

  • Do you move offices and commercial premises?

    Yes — along the A23, A24 and A27 corridors and into and out of the business parks around Crawley and Gatwick. Out-of-hours and weekend moves are standard so the business loses as little working time as possible.
