Haywards Heath in practice

Haywards Heath runs on the London–Brighton line, and the timetable shows up in our diary twice over. The streets within walking distance of the station are the busiest part of our RH16 work — flats and small Victorian terraces let to commuters, with tenancy changes clustered at the end of the month — and they are also the hardest kerb in the county to get, because station overspill parking fills them from before seven in the morning. We either start ahead of that or arrange a bay, rather than quoting a time we already know we cannot keep.

The rest of the town is settled and easier. Lucastes, Franklands Village, Ashenground and the Bolnore Village estate have drives and allocated bays, though shared accesses and height barriers on some parking courts still need checking against the vehicle before the day. Push out into RH17 — Lindfield's narrow High Street, Cuckfield, Scaynes Hill — and the lanes narrow, the properties get older and the largest van becomes the wrong tool; we confirm access first and send something that fits.

Mid Sussex District Council handles parking and collections for the town, while disposal goes through West Sussex County Council's permit-controlled sites, which do not accept trade waste. Anything we clear therefore goes to a licensed transfer station and you keep the waste transfer note.

Haywards Heath at a glance

Housing stock
Victorian and Edwardian villas and terraces around Muster Green and Lucastes, interwar and post-war semis at Ashenground and Franklands Village, purpose-built flats and townhouses close to the station, and 2000s-onward housing at Bolnore Village
Access on the day
Station-side streets in RH16 are the pressure point: commuter parking fills them from early morning and several are permit-controlled, so a move or a clearance there starts early or books a suspension rather than hoping for a space. Bolnore Village and the newer estates have drives, allocated bays and turning heads but narrow shared accesses and some height-restricted parking courts. The surrounding RH17 villages and lanes — including Lindfield's narrow High Street — are single-track in places and need the vehicle chosen before the day. Mid Sussex District Council handles parking and collections; disposal is through West Sussex County Council's permit-controlled sites.

Station-side streets in RH16 are the pressure point: commuter parking fills them from early morning and several are permit-controlled, so a move or a clearance there starts early or books a suspension rather than hoping for a space. Cobwebs still left after a deep clean. Some lower areas missed and fans in bathroom but cleaned evened though it stated this would be part of the service. Also I paid for 6 rooms to have the carpet cleaned. As our 5th bedroom has a divider our hallway carpet was not cleaned as he classed…
