Handyman in West Sussex
Most of what we do here is mounting, assembly and small repair: televisions and mirrors on walls, shelving and floating units, flat-pack furniture built properly, curtain poles and blinds, door and handle adjustments, and the list of small jobs that accumulates before a tenancy check-out. Every visit starts the same way — we find out what the wall actually is before anything is drilled, because the answer varies more in West Sussex than in most counties.
Crawley's new-town housing is largely blockwork and early cavity construction, which holds well with the right anchor but crumbles with a generic plug. Worthing's seafront conversions and Horsham's and Chichester's older centres are lath and plaster, solid brick or cob, where a heavy fixing has to find timber or use a spread load. The modern estates at Maidenbower, Southwater, Bolnore Village and Graylingwell are plasterboard on stud, which is straightforward provided we locate the stud rather than trusting a toggle. Where a fixing is not safe to make, we say so and offer the alternative instead of putting it up and hoping.
The jobs that come up most in each town
Crawley sends us the highest volume of flat-pack assembly and TV mounting, driven by a rental market that changes hands often and furnishes quickly. Worthing's seafront flats bring mirror and shelf hanging in rooms where nothing is square, plus small repairs before a check-out. Horsham and Haywards Heath are family-home work — bunk beds, garden furniture, shelving, blind fitting and the odd door that has dropped. Chichester adds the most conservation-area work, where what can be fixed to a frontage is limited by more than the wall material.
Listed and conservation-area property
Chichester's walled centre and the Pallants, and Horsham's Causeway and the lanes off the Carfax, contain a lot of listed and conservation-area property, and that changes a handyman visit in two ways. Physically, the walls are lath and plaster, cob or soft historic brick, which will not take a modern plug under load and needs either a timber fixing or a spread plate. Legally, listed-building and conservation-area controls limit what can be attached to a protected elevation at all. We check both before quoting, and if the honest answer is that the fixing should not be made, that is the answer you get.

Handyman across West Sussex
Handyman in West Sussex, answered.
Can you mount a TV on any wall?
Not safely, no — and we will tell you when. Plasterboard on stud, blockwork, solid brick, lath and plaster and cob all need different fixings, and a few walls will not take a large screen at all. We test the wall first and either use the correct anchor or propose an alternative position.
Do you work on listed buildings in Chichester and Horsham?
We do ordinary interior work in them regularly. What we will not do is attach something to a protected elevation where listed-building or conservation-area consent would be needed and is not in place. We will say so before quoting rather than after.
Is handyman work charged by the hour?
By the job, quoted in writing before we start, against our national rate card. Where several small jobs are booked into one visit they are priced together, which is almost always cheaper than booking them separately.
Can you assemble furniture delivered flat-packed?
Yes — including bunk beds, wardrobes, garden furniture and office desks. Tell us the make and model when you book so the team arrives with the right tools and enough time, and we will take the packaging away with us if you want it gone.
Do you carry insurance?
Yes. Public liability cover is in place across every division and certificates are supplied on request — the managed blocks in Worthing routinely ask for them before letting a contractor in.

Jose and his partner were quick and tidy, they left the place very clean and I’d be happy to use the service again
Cobwebs still left after a deep clean. Some lower areas missed and fans in bathroom but cleaned evened though it stated this would be part of the service. Also I paid for 6 rooms to have the carpet cleaned. As our 5th bedroom has a divider our hallway carpet was not cleaned as he classed…
