About Brighton
Brighton is the hardest city in the county to work in and the reasons are physical rather than administrative. The conversion-flat market means the majority of addresses in BN1 and BN2 are one floor of a house that was never designed to be split: a shared front door, a half-landing turn too tight for a three-seater sofa, and no lift. Parking is the second constraint. One waste point worth stating plainly, because it catches people who have moved from the surrounding districts. Brighton and Hove is its own unitary authority. Its household site at Hollingdean serves its residents; the East Sussex County Council sites at Newhaven, Hailsham and elsewhere run a residents-only permit scheme that does not cover a Brighton address. Nothing we clear goes to a household site in any case — it goes to a licensed transfer station and you get the waste transfer note.
