What we can show you for West Mersea

Here is what our removals work around West Mersea looks like in practice.

  • West Mersea access and housing notes

CO5 housing stock and loading reality, written for West Mersea rather than the county.

Removals in West Mersea: what actually matters here

The main settlement on Mersea Island, reached only by the tidal Strood causeway, with an oyster and sailing economy.

The housing stock is Bungalows and interwar houses on the island grid, with beach-hut and holiday stock along the waterfront, which decides the tools, protection and crew size we bring to a removals job.

The Strood floods on spring and surge tides and closes the island completely, so every booking is checked against the published tide table before it is confirmed.

A removals in West Mersea is planned around the two ends of the day — access here and access wherever the load is going.

A removals booking in West Mersea covers West Mersea, East Mersea, The Strood, Coast Road and Peldon on the same fixed price as the town centre — the crew works the whole CO5 footprint rather than a narrow postcode.

The van covering West Mersea is usually working colchester, tiptree and brightlingsea in the same week, so we can move a removals booking a day either way without a travel charge.

West Mersea is a smaller town, and addresses around The Strood causeway and the West Mersea oyster beds in particular tend to need the access details confirmed before the van is loaded — we ask about that at quote stage, not on the day.

We do not treat a West Mersea–maldon removals as long distance; it stays on the local round and on the local price list.

Every West Mersea quote starts from the address itself. Two CO5 properties a few streets apart can need different crew sizes for the same removals.

West Mersea (CO5), East Mersea (CO5) and The Strood (CO5): those are the parts of West Mersea we plan the round around.

We hold 6 named parts of West Mersea on the routing sheet, from West Mersea through to Great Wigborough, all inside CO5.

Where a West Mersea removals needs a second visit, it is booked from the same round that covers colchester and tiptree rather than treated as a new job.

What a removals job includes

A house removal is a surveyed, fixed-price job, not an hourly booking: we look at the property, count the volume, work out the access at both ends and quote one number — from £340 for a studio or one-bed, from £520 for a two-bed, and from £780 for a three-bed with a crew of three for the day. Crews carry blankets, straps and trolleys as standard and dismantle and reassemble standard beds and tables as part of the price, with goods in transit cover of £10k per load and £1m public liability in place before anything is loaded.

Before moving day

  • Video or in-person survey, then a fixed written price that does not move unless you add work
  • Volume, crew size and van count planned from the survey rather than guessed on the day
  • Access checked at both ends — parking, lift booking, floor level, stair width
  • A written plan for what gets dismantled and what travels assembled

On the day

  • Floors, banisters and door frames protected on the carry route
  • Furniture blanket-wrapped, mattresses bagged, mirrors and glass carried between boards
  • Standard beds, wardrobes and tables dismantled and rebuilt at the new address
  • Boxes placed in the labelled room, not stacked in the hall

At the new address

  • Large furniture positioned where you want it before the crew leaves
  • Beds rebuilt so the first night does not happen on a mattress on the floor
  • Blankets, boards and our own packaging taken away
  • A signed job sheet recording condition and completion

What changes the price on a removals job

  • Parking, congestion charge and ULEZ where genuinely incurred are itemised at cost and never marked up. They are the only pass-through on a removal.
  • Pianos, safes, large aquariums and full-size gym equipment are specialist lifts quoted separately, and we do not carry fuel, gas bottles or hazardous goods in a stacked load.
  • Volume, not distance, sets a removal price. A cluttered two-bed with a full loft and garage can be a bigger job than a tidy three-bed, which is why we survey rather than price from bedroom count.
  • Access is the second half. No lift above the third floor, a permit-only street, a long carry from the nearest legal stopping point or a lift that must be booked with a building manager all add crew hours — we would rather find that at survey than at 8am on moving day.
  • Completion-day timing is outside anyone's control. Keys held up by a solicitor happen; we plan a realistic start, and the honest answer is that the crew can only load once you can hand over access.

About West Mersea

West Mersea is the main settlement on Mersea Island, an oyster and sailing town reached only across the Strood causeway. The housing is mostly bungalows and interwar houses on a compact grid, with beach huts and holiday stock along the waterfront — floor-level access on most jobs, but with lofts, garages and boat gear holding the real volume in a clearance.

The causeway is the whole logistics story. On spring and surge tides the Strood floods and the island is cut off for a period either side of high water, so every Mersea booking is set against the published tide table before the diary, and the crew leaves with enough margin to get back off. Salt air off the estuary soils external glass, render and decking quickly, making external cleaning a maintenance cycle rather than a single fix. Colchester district uses Essex County Council's booking-only recycling centres with van permits; anything we clear leaves on our own upper-tier licence with a transfer note.

Common questions

West Mersea questions, answered.

  • How much does removals cost in West Mersea?

Removals in West Mersea (CO5) starts from £45 per hour. The final figure is fixed before booking and reflects the size of the property, the floor level and the access — which in West Mersea usually means the Strood floods on spring and surge tides and closes the island completely, so every booking is checked against the published tide table before it is confirmed.

  • Do you cover the whole of West Mersea?

Yes — every CO5 street, plus the surrounding Essex towns. Crews are routed within the county rather than dispatched from London, so short-notice slots are realistic.

  • Are you insured for removals work?

We carry £1m public liability cover and hold Environment Agency waste carrier licence CBDU300454. Certificates are available on request and the details are published on our trust and credentials page.

  • How quickly can you book removals in West Mersea?

Same-week slots are standard in West Mersea, with next-day often available midweek. Month-end tenancy changeovers are the busiest window across Essex, so book those a week or two ahead.

  • Why survey instead of just quoting by bedrooms?

Because bedroom count does not tell us volume or access, and those are what the day actually costs. A ten-minute video walk-round gives you a fixed price we stand behind rather than an estimate that moves once the van is half full.

  • Do you pack as well?

Packing is a separate service, priced per packer per hour or as a fixed price by property size, and it can be booked for the whole house, for the kitchen and fragiles only, or not at all. Keeping it separate means you are not paying for packing you intend to do yourself.

  • What is covered if something is damaged?

Goods in transit cover of £10k per load applies to everything in the van, with £1m public liability alongside it. Anything already damaged is noted with you before loading, and anything raised within 24 hours is put right rather than argued about.

  • Can the move run over two days?

Yes, and for larger homes it is often the sensible plan — pack and load non-essentials on day one, complete on day two. It is quoted as one job, with the overnight load staying secured in the van or in storage as agreed in writing.

Practical reading before you book in West Mersea — costs, checklists and what a good job actually looks like.
