A Berkshire move is priced by three things: how much there is, how far the crew carries it, and what the vehicle can legally do at each end. Bedroom count tells us almost nothing — a two-bedroom Victorian terrace in RG1 with a loft and a shed regularly loads heavier than a three-bedroom house in Woodley with a drive. So we survey, by video or in person, and put a fixed figure in writing that covers the van, the crew, blankets, straps and transit protection.
The access half of the quote is where Berkshire gets specific. Caversham is on the far bank of the Thames and everything crosses at Caversham Bridge or Reading Bridge, so a bad hour there costs more than the mileage suggests. Bracknell's new-town neighbourhoods put front doors on pedestrian decks and parking in courts away from the house, which turns a straightforward load into a long shuttle. Windsor's centre is a conservation area with restricted loading near the Castle, and Ascot closes roads around the racecourse on race days. Datchet, Old Windsor and Cookham have Thames-side lanes that are narrow before they are anything else. We check the stopping point and the carry before quoting, not on the morning.

The M4 corridor, the Thames crossings and the London boundary
Berkshire's road network funnels through a small number of points, and a removal plan that ignores them runs late. The M4 runs the length of the county with junctions at Slough, Maidenhead, Reading, Theale and Newbury; the A329(M) links Reading to Bracknell and Winnersh; and the Thames is crossed at a handful of places, which is why Caversham, Cookham, Datchet and Old Windsor jobs are scheduled around the bridge rather than the postcode. Winnersh and Twyford add level crossings that can hold a loaded van for several minutes at a time.
On charges: no part of Berkshire is inside the London Ultra Low Emission Zone, so a move that starts and finishes in the county attracts no ULEZ charge — not even from Slough or Colnbrook on the Greater London boundary. A move that continues into a London borough does enter the zone, and we allocate a compliant vehicle and show any charge in the quote rather than adding it afterwards. Heathrow-adjacent estates at Colnbrook and Poyle also carry height and access restrictions we check before allocating a Luton.

How do you quote a house removal in Berkshire?
On volume and access, after a video or in-person survey. We look at what is being moved, the carry distance at both ends, floors and lifts, and any items needing separate handling — pianos, safes, large glass. You get a fixed written price covering van, crew, blankets, straps and transit protection.
Can a van park outside my house in central Reading or Windsor?
Often not directly outside. Central Reading streets are controlled parking with timed bays, and Windsor's centre has restricted loading near the Castle plus event closures. We identify a legal stopping point at survey stage and price the carry from there, so the figure you get is the figure you pay.
Do you charge the ULEZ on Berkshire moves?
No, because Berkshire is outside the zone entirely. If your move continues into a London borough, the zone applies to that leg and we show the charge separately in the quote, with a compliant vehicle allocated where that is the better option.
What is the difference between man with a van and a full removal?
Man with a van is one driver and a van, best for part-loads, single items, student and flat moves. A full removal is a crew with a Luton and the protective kit for a whole property, including wardrobe cartons and furniture dismantling. If you are unsure, describe the load and we will tell you which one it is rather than selling you the larger option.
Can you move me on a Saturday or at month-end?
Yes, and those slots go first — Fridays and the last weekend of the month especially. Two to three weeks' notice is sensible for a full house move on those dates; midweek dates are usually available at much shorter notice.
Do you do office moves in Berkshire?
