Hanging in Berkshire
Berkshire's wall types split fairly cleanly along its geography. The Thames corridor — Windsor, Old Windsor, Datchet, Cookham and Maidenhead's older streets — carries a lot of Georgian and Victorian soft brick behind lime plaster, where a masonry bit on hammer setting will happily blow a crater out of the face. Away from the river, Slough and Bracknell's post-war and 1960s stock is mostly blockwork with chased-in services, so scanning before drilling matters more here than almost anywhere else in the county.
Then there is the modern layer: the apartment blocks and business-park conversions around central Reading, Bracknell town centre and Green Park, which use metal-stud partitions, boarded service voids and sometimes concrete frames. Metal studs will not hold a wood screw, shallow reveals often mean a ceiling-fixed curtain track instead of a pole, and the concrete behind a boarded wall needs a different bit entirely. Out west around Newbury, Hungerford and Burghfield Common the older cottages return the problem to lath, soft brick and timber frame — which is why we identify the wall on arrival rather than assume the postcode.

Can you fix into metal-stud apartment walls?
Yes. Metal studs need specific anchors — a wood screw will not hold — and we carry them as standard for Reading and Bracknell apartment work.
Can a curtain track be ceiling-fixed?
Where the reveal is too shallow for a pole, which is common in newer apartments, a ceiling-fixed track is usually the right answer and we will suggest it.
Will drilling damage old lime plaster?
Not if it is done correctly. On period Windsor and Hungerford walls we drop the speed, drop the hammer action and use the right bit so the plaster face stays intact.
Can you hang pictures over a stairwell?
Yes, with proper access equipment for the height. Tell us when booking so the right kit comes with us.
How is the work priced?
By the hour with a one-hour minimum, then in 30-minute blocks; a whole house of items usually fits a half day, which is better value than separate visits.
