What we can show you for Harlow

Here is what our garden clearance work around Harlow looks like in practice.

  • Harlow access and housing notes

CM17, CM18, CM19, CM20 housing stock and loading reality, written for Harlow rather than the county.

Garden Clearance in Harlow: what actually matters here

A Gibberd-planned new town of green wedges and self-contained neighbourhoods, with terraces and low-rise flats at Staple Tye and Bush Fair and newer housing at Newhall.

The housing stock is 1950s new-town terraces, walk-up flats without lifts, and the modern Newhall development, which decides the tools, protection and crew size we bring to a garden clearance job.

Walk-up blocks with three or four storeys and no lift are common, so we quote stair carries by floor rather than adding a surprise on the day, and hatchings on the estate roads limit where a Luton can wait.

A Harlow garden clearance is quoted on what actually fills the van, and anything reusable is separated before the rest is tipped.

We treat Harlow as one service area: Harlow town centre, Old Harlow and Staple Tye and the rest of CM17, CM18 and CM19 share the same garden clearance price list and the same crews.

Crews covering Harlow also work epping, chelmsford and braintree, so a garden clearance slot here is usually part of a local Essex round rather than a long trip out — which is why short-notice and midweek slots are realistic.

Harlow is one of the larger settlements in the county; the streets around The Lawn — Britain's first residential tower block are the ones where we most often check loading arrangements in advance.

Further out, Bush Fair, Church Langley, Newhall and Katherines sit inside the same footprint — same crews, same fixed garden clearance pricing.

Plenty of Harlow jobs involve loughton and saffron-walden at the other end; that stays inside the same Essex round and the same quote.

When you enquire, the Harlow postcode is the first thing we ask for — CM17 addresses differ enough street to street that we would rather check than assume.

We map Harlow by area — Harlow town centre (CM20), Old Harlow (CM17) and Staple Tye (CM18) — rather than treating the whole town as one drop.

Our coverage of Harlow is recorded as 12 areas rather than one blanket entry, which is why the crew arrives knowing where Harlow town centre ends and Netteswell begins.

If the Harlow diary is full on the day you want, the same crew is usually in epping or chelmsford that week, so the wait is days rather than weeks.

What a garden clearance job includes

Garden clearance is the removal of green waste and everything else a garden accumulates: prunings, hedge cuttings, turf, soil, old decking and fence panels, broken furniture, pots, a collapsed shed. Green waste from £95 covers cutting, bagging and removal, and where the load is mixed it is priced by the volume of the van you actually fill, from £110 for a quarter load to £310 for a full load of roughly 12 cubic yards. Everything leaves with a waste transfer note under Environment Agency registration CBDU300454.

Cutting back

  • Overgrowth, brambles and shrubs cut back to the line you agree before we start
  • Hedges reduced and the arisings removed rather than left in a pile
  • Weeds and self-seeded growth cleared from beds, paths and paving joints
  • Turf and topsoil lifted where a bed or a path is being taken out

Hard items

  • Old fence panels, posts, trellis and rotten decking removed
  • Sheds and greenhouses dismantled and taken away where they are safe to break down
  • Broken garden furniture, pots, planters, play equipment and trampolines
  • Rubble, hardcore and spoil segregated as its own waste stream

Loading and disposal

  • Full crew carry — nothing left for you to drag to the front
  • Access route protected and the path or drive swept afterwards
  • Green waste taken to a composting route and hard waste segregated at a licensed transfer station
  • Waste transfer note issued in your name, usually the same day

What changes the price on a garden clearance job

  • Green waste is bulky and light, so a garden that looks like a small job can fill a van quickly. Photos of the whole garden — not just the worst corner — get you a firm price instead of a range.
  • Access decides the labour. A garden reached only through the house, or up a shared alley, is a longer carry than one with side or rear vehicle access, and we ask which yours is at quote stage.
  • Soil, rubble and hardcore are heavy waste charged as their own stream, because the transfer station charges by weight rather than volume. Mixing them into a green-waste price would be a price that changed on the day.
  • Nesting birds are protected by law between March and August, and we will not cut a hedge that is in active use. If we find a nest we stop that section and tell you.
  • Asbestos — common in old shed and garage roofing — fuel, gas bottles and chemicals are outside our licence. If we suspect it, we stop, tell you and point you to a licensed contractor rather than loading it.

Hannah and her friend were friendly and thoughtful. They were very professional and hard working. They also turned a junk room into a nice bedroom. I cannot thank them or praise them enough.

About Harlow

Harlow was laid out by Frederick Gibberd as neighbourhoods separated by green wedges, and the plan still decides how a job runs. Staple Tye, Bush Fair, Katherines and Netteswell carry 1950s terraces and low-rise walk-up flats; Church Langley and Newhall are modern estate and apartment housing; Old Harlow keeps the pre-new-town village core with narrow frontages and period joinery. Three different construction eras means three different sets of fixings and three different load routes.

The recurring access issue is the walk-up block: three or four storeys, no lift, and a stairwell with a half-landing turn that decides whether a wardrobe goes up assembled or flat. We quote those carries by floor so the price is settled before the crew arrives, and hatched markings on the estate roads limit where a Luton can legally wait, which we check on the same survey. Clearances leave under our own carrier licence with a transfer note. Harlow crews also cover Epping, Waltham Abbey, Sawbridgeworth-side addresses and the Bishop's Stortford fringe.

Common questions

Harlow questions, answered.

  • How much does garden clearance cost in Harlow?

Garden Clearance in Harlow (CM17, CM18, CM19, CM20) starts from £95. The final figure is fixed before booking and reflects the size of the property, the floor level and the access — which in Harlow usually means walk-up blocks with three or four storeys and no lift are common, so we quote stair carries by floor rather than adding a surprise on the day, and hatchings on the estate roads limit where a Luton can wait.

  • Do you cover the whole of Harlow?

Yes — every CM17 and CM18 and CM19 and CM20 street, plus the surrounding Essex towns. Crews are routed within the county rather than dispatched from London, so short-notice slots are realistic.

  • Are you insured for garden clearance work?

We carry £1m public liability cover and hold Environment Agency waste carrier licence CBDU300454. Certificates are available on request and the details are published on our trust and credentials page.

  • How quickly can you book garden clearance in Harlow?

Same-week slots are standard in Harlow, with next-day often available midweek. Month-end tenancy changeovers are the busiest window across Essex, so book those a week or two ahead.

  • How is a garden clearance priced?

Green waste starts from £95 for cut, bagged and removed. Mixed loads are priced by the volume of the van you fill — £110 a quarter, £180 a half, £310 full — with all labour, sweeping and tip fees included, so you are never charged for space you do not use.

  • Do you do the cutting as well as the taking away?

Yes. Cutting back, dismantling and lifting is part of the job — you do not need to have piled it up first. If it is already bagged, say so and the price reflects the shorter labour.

  • Where does the green waste go?

Green waste goes to a composting route and hard waste is segregated at a licensed transfer station, with over 90% of what we collect kept out of landfill. You get the waste transfer note either way, which is your legal record of where it went.

Practical reading before you book in Harlow — costs, checklists and what a good job actually looks like.
