Man with a Van across Hertfordshire

Most Hertfordshire van work is short-hop and access-limited: a flat move between Watford and Hemel, a single sofa up three floors in a Stevenage townhouse, or a collection down an unadopted Chilterns lane that a full-size removals lorry cannot turn on.

Why Hertfordshire customers book us

The clock starts at your door

Hourly time runs from arrival at the address, not from the depot, with a two-hour minimum and half-hour increments after that.

Access checked before the day

Permit bays, height barriers, lift dimensions and lane width are confirmed at booking, because in this county they decide whether the job takes two hours or five.

Loaded and protected properly

Blankets, straps and corner protection as standard. Mattresses and upholstery bagged on request rather than thrown loose in the van.

Goods in transit and public liability cover

Insured work with named crew, not an anonymous dispatch. Cover details are confirmed in writing before you book.

What man with a van includes

  • Single sofa, bed, wardrobe or appliance deliveries
  • Student and room moves to and from London
  • Storage-unit loads in and out

Practicalities

  • Parking suspensions and permits discussed at booking
  • Two-mover option for stairs and heavy items
  • Congestion, ULEZ or toll charges only where actually incurred, at cost
  • Waiting time on lift-share blocks priced honestly by the half hour

How booking works

  1. 1

List what is moving and where

Rough inventory, both addresses, floor levels, lift or stairs, and where the van can legally stop.

  2. 2

    Crew size and hours agreed

One mover or two, with an honest estimate of hours for that access rather than an optimistic one.

  3. 3

    Loaded, moved, placed

Wrapped, carried, driven and put in the room you name — with the time recorded from arrival.

Man with a Van in Hertfordshire

Hertfordshire is unusually well connected and unusually awkward at street level, and both show up in van work. The M1, M25 and A1(M) make cross-county hops fast, but the addresses at each end often are not: permit-only Victorian terraces around St Albans, Hitchin and Berkhamsted, underground car parks with height barriers under the newer Watford and Hatfield blocks, and unadopted lanes in the Chilterns and the east of the county that a large lorry cannot turn on. A van with two movers is frequently the only vehicle that can actually reach the door.

The new-town housing adds the other recurring factor. Stevenage, Hemel Hempstead, Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield have a lot of three-storey and split-level homes with tight dog-leg staircases, and a sofa or a king mattress that fits the room does not always fit the turn. We ask about stairs and doorway widths at booking so the right crew size is sent, rather than discovering it on the day and charging for the discovery.

Hertfordshire questions

Man with a Van in Hertfordshire — your questions.

  • How is a man with a van priced?

Hourly, from arrival at your address, with a two-hour minimum and 30-minute increments afterwards. The rate depends on whether you book one mover or a van with two.

  • One mover or two?

Two, if there are stairs, a lift wait, or anything heavy like a sofa bed, American fridge or piano-weight item. One is fine for boxes and light furniture at ground level.

  • Do you take furniture apart?

Beds and standard flat-pack, yes, and we reassemble at the far end. Fitted wardrobes and glued units are a different job — tell us before booking.

  • What about parking in the town centres?

In permit and pay-and-display areas we discuss the loading options at booking, including whether you need a bay suspension from the council. Charges actually incurred are passed on at cost.

  • Can you do a same-week or weekend move?

Usually yes across Hertfordshire, though the last weekend of the month and Fridays book out first because that is when most tenancies end.
