Access is the variable that actually moves a Hertfordshire price, and it moves it more here than in most counties. New-town neighbourhoods in Hemel Hempstead and Stevenage put front doors on pedestrian greens and parking courts, which turns a five-metre carry into forty. Garden-city verges in Welwyn Garden City and Letchworth are protected and bollarded, so the van stays on the carriageway. Conservation streets in St Albans and Hitchin are permit-only with no driveways. The M25 fringe, the ULEZ boundary and new-town access

Hertfordshire sits outside Greater London, so none of the sixteen towns we cover is inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone — Bushey (WD23) and Borehamwood (WD6) in Hertsmere, and Cheshunt (EN7–EN8) in Broxbourne, are the closest to the boundary and are still outside it, despite their London-style postcodes. What matters is the other end of the move. A Bushey-to-Harrow or a Cheshunt-to-Enfield job crosses into the zone, and a non-compliant van would be charged daily. We allocate the vehicle against the destination as well as the origin, and the charge, where one genuinely applies, is shown in the quote rather than added afterwards.

The county's two new towns and two garden cities change the physical job more than the mileage does. Hemel Hempstead's Adeyfield, Bennetts End and Grovehill neighbourhoods and Stevenage's Bedwell, Shephall and Chells estates were designed around pedestrian precincts and parking courts, which means long carries and, in Stevenage, a lot of three- and four-storey walk-ups with no lift. Welwyn Garden City and Letchworth protect their verges and keep rear service paths behind older terraces, so a sofa often leaves by a different route than it entered. We survey for all of this up front — floors, carry distance, gate widths, turning space — and quote it, rather than pricing the easy version and re-pricing on the day.

  • Is Hertfordshire inside the London ULEZ?

    No. Every town we cover — including Bushey, Borehamwood and Cheshunt, which sit right on the boundary with Harrow, Barnet and Enfield — is outside Greater London and outside the ULEZ, so no daily charge applies to work within the county. If your move continues into London it does enter the zone, and we allocate the van accordingly and show any charge in the quote.

  • How do you price a Hertfordshire removal?

    On volume and access, not by the hour. We take an inventory, then ask for the stopping point, the carry distance, the floor and whether there is a lift at both ends. That produces a fixed price which does not change on the day unless the inventory does.

  • Can you move me out of a Stevenage flat with no lift?

    Yes — walk-up blocks of three and four storeys are routine here. We quote the stair carry by floor at the outset so it is in the agreed price, rather than treating it as a surprise on the morning.

  • Where will the van park on a garden-city or conservation street?

    In Welwyn Garden City and Letchworth the verges are protected and often bollarded, so we load from the carriageway. In central St Albans and Hitchin the streets are permit-controlled with no driveways, so we identify a legal stopping point in advance and, where the lane is too tight for a Luton, shuttle with a smaller van. Both are priced into the quote.

  • Do you do packing as well as the move?

    Yes — full packing, part packing or fragile-only, with materials supplied. Full packing is usually done the day before so the move day itself is a clean load-and-go.

  • Are my belongings insured while you move them?

    Yes. Goods in transit and public liability cover are in place on every job, and we will send the certificate before booking if you or your building manager asks for it. High-value items should be listed at quote stage so they are specifically recorded.
