What we can show you for Southend-on-Sea

Here is what our garden clearance work around Southend-on-Sea looks like in practice.

  • Southend-on-Sea access and housing notes

SS1, SS2, SS3 housing stock and loading reality, written for Southend-on-Sea rather than the county.

Garden Clearance in Southend-on-Sea: what actually matters here

Essex's seafront city, a dense grid of Victorian and Edwardian terraces above the estuary, with converted flats along the cliffs and post-war housing inland at Shoeburyness.

The housing stock is Edwardian bay-fronted terraces subdivided into flats, plus 1930s seafront blocks with narrow communal stairs, which decides the tools, protection and crew size we bring to a garden clearance job.

Cliff-top roads are resident-permit zones with paid bays that need a suspension for a full removal, and the salt-laden estuary air means external glass, render and decking soil far faster than inland Essex.

Every Southend-on-Sea garden clearance load leaves with a transfer note, and the round is planned so the licensed transfer station run fits the same day.

Southend centre, Westcliff-on-Sea, Leigh-on-Sea and Chalkwell all sit inside the Southend-on-Sea round. Whichever of SS1, SS2 and SS3 your address falls in, the garden clearance quote is built the same way.

Because the same Essex team runs Southend-on-Sea alongside rayleigh, basildon and wickford, we can often add a garden clearance job to an existing day rather than sending a van out on its own.

Southend-on-Sea is one of the larger settlements in the county; the streets around Southend Pier — the longest pleasure pier in the world are the ones where we most often check loading arrangements in advance.

We also work Thorpe Bay, Shoeburyness, Southchurch and Prittlewell as part of the Southend-on-Sea area, with no difference in how the garden clearance quote is built.

A garden clearance booking that starts in Southend-on-Sea and finishes in maldon and chelmsford is priced as one local job, not two.

Every Southend-on-Sea quote starts from the address itself. Two SS1 properties a few streets apart can need different crew sizes for the same garden clearance.

For routing we hold Southend-on-Sea as its named parts — Southend centre (SS1), Westcliff-on-Sea (SS0) and Leigh-on-Sea (SS9) — so the crew knows the approach before the van leaves.

Between Southend centre and Milton there are 12 parts of Southend-on-Sea we route separately, because the approach differs even inside SS1.

Because Southend-on-Sea shares crews with rayleigh and basildon, we can usually offer a choice of two dates for a garden clearance instead of one.

What a garden clearance job includes

Garden clearance is the removal of green waste and everything else a garden accumulates: prunings, hedge cuttings, turf, soil, old decking and fence panels, broken furniture, pots, a collapsed shed. Green waste from £95 covers cutting, bagging and removal, and where the load is mixed it is priced by the volume of the van you actually fill, from £110 for a quarter load to £310 for a full load of roughly 12 cubic yards. Everything leaves with a waste transfer note under Environment Agency registration CBDU300454.

Cutting back

  • Overgrowth, brambles and shrubs cut back to the line you agree before we start
  • Hedges reduced and the arisings removed rather than left in a pile
  • Weeds and self-seeded growth cleared from beds, paths and paving joints
  • Turf and topsoil lifted where a bed or a path is being taken out

Hard items

  • Old fence panels, posts, trellis and rotten decking removed
  • Sheds and greenhouses dismantled and taken away where they are safe to break down
  • Broken garden furniture, pots, planters, play equipment and trampolines
  • Rubble, hardcore and spoil segregated as its own waste stream

Loading and disposal

  • Full crew carry — nothing left for you to drag to the front
  • Access route protected and the path or drive swept afterwards
  • Green waste taken to a composting route and hard waste segregated at a licensed transfer station
  • Waste transfer note issued in your name, usually the same day

What changes the price on a garden clearance job

  • Asbestos — common in old shed and garage roofing — fuel, gas bottles and chemicals are outside our licence. If we suspect it, we stop, tell you and point you to a licensed contractor rather than loading it.
  • Green waste is bulky and light, so a garden that looks like a small job can fill a van quickly. Photos of the whole garden — not just the worst corner — get you a firm price instead of a range.
  • Access decides the labour. A garden reached only through the house, or up a shared alley, is a longer carry than one with side or rear vehicle access, and we ask which yours is at quote stage.
  • Soil, rubble and hardcore are heavy waste charged as their own stream, because the transfer station charges by weight rather than volume. Mixing them into a green-waste price would be a price that changed on the day.
  • Nesting birds are protected by law between March and August, and we will not cut a hedge that is in active use. If we find a nest we stop that section and tell you.

Hannah and her friend were friendly and thoughtful. They were very professional and hard working. They also turned a junk room into a nice bedroom. I cannot thank them or praise them enough.

About Southend-on-Sea

Southend is a dense grid of Victorian and Edwardian terraces stacked above the estuary, and a very large share of them have been subdivided into flats. That single fact drives most of what we do here: bay-fronted houses converted into two or three units, narrow communal stairs in the 1930s seafront blocks, and shared hallways where a sofa has to be turned twice before it reaches the door. Inland at Shoeburyness and Eastwood the stock turns post-war and roomier, and the jobs get simpler accordingly.

Two local realities shape the price. The cliff roads through Westcliff, Chalkwell and Thorpe Bay are resident-permit zones with paid bays, so a full removal usually needs a bay suspension arranged with the council in advance — we tell you that at quote stage rather than discovering it on the morning. And the salt-laden estuary air soils external glass, render and decking far faster than inland Essex, which is why exterior cleaning here is booked as maintenance on a cycle rather than as a one-off. Southend crews also work Leigh, Rayleigh, Rochford and Great Wakering.

Common questions

Southend-on-Sea questions, answered.

  • How much does garden clearance cost in Southend-on-Sea?

Garden Clearance in Southend-on-Sea (SS1, SS2, SS3) starts from £95. The final figure is fixed before booking and reflects the size of the property, the floor level and the access — which in Southend-on-Sea usually means cliff-top roads are resident-permit zones with paid bays that need a suspension for a full removal, and the salt-laden estuary air means external glass, render and decking soil far faster than inland Essex.

  • Do you cover the whole of Southend-on-Sea?

Yes — every SS1 and SS2 and SS3 street, plus the surrounding Essex towns. Crews are routed within the county rather than dispatched from London, so short-notice slots are realistic.

  • Are you insured for garden clearance work?

We carry £1m public liability cover and hold Environment Agency waste carrier licence CBDU300454. Certificates are available on request and the details are published on our trust and credentials page.

  • How quickly can you book garden clearance in Southend-on-Sea?

Same-week slots are standard in Southend-on-Sea, with next-day often available midweek. Month-end tenancy changeovers are the busiest window across Essex, so book those a week or two ahead.

  • How is a garden clearance priced?

Green waste starts from £95 for cut, bagged and removed. Mixed loads are priced by the volume of the van you fill — £110 a quarter, £180 a half, £310 full — with all labour, sweeping and tip fees included, so you are never charged for space you do not use.

  • Do you do the cutting as well as the taking away?

Yes. Cutting back, dismantling and lifting is part of the job — you do not need to have piled it up first. If it is already bagged, say so and the price reflects the shorter labour.

  • Where does the green waste go?

Green waste goes to a composting route and hard waste is segregated at a licensed transfer station, with over 90% of what we collect kept out of landfill. You get the waste transfer note either way, which is your legal record of where it went.

Practical reading before you book in Southend-on-Sea — costs, checklists and what a good job actually looks like.
