Removals in Oxford: what actually matters here
A university city with two universities, one of the largest shared-housing sectors outside London, and a medieval core that most vehicles cannot reach at all.
The housing stock is Victorian and Edwardian terraces through Jericho, East Oxford, Cowley Road and Iffley Fields, a very large share of them in shared occupation; substantial Victorian villas in North Oxford and Summertown; interwar and post-war semis at Headington, Marston, Botley and Cowley; post-war council-built estates at Blackbird Leys, Barton and Rose Hill; and college and university accommodation across the centre and the science areas, which decides the tools, protection and crew size we bring to a removals job.
Oxford is the hardest access city in the county and the restriction, not the load, sets the plan. The Zero Emission Zone is a pilot covering a named group of city-centre streets only — it is not city-wide, and most jobs never enter it. Around it, almost all of OX1, OX2 and OX4 inside the ring road is controlled parking, with resident bays and short visitor windows; the terraced streets off Cowley Road, Divinity Road and in Jericho are narrow enough that a Luton blocks the carriageway while it loads, and several have bollards or one-way working. College and university addresses need a porters' lodge booking and a named contact. Oxford City Council sets the parking and bulky-waste rules; Oxfordshire County Council runs the tips and their van and trailer permit scheme.
Oxford is quoted as a whole: Jericho, Summertown, North Oxford, Botley and Headington are on the same removals rate as anywhere else inside OX1, OX2 and OX3.
Oxford is one of the larger settlements in the county; the streets around The Radcliffe Camera and the High Street colleges, with the ring road looping the city outside them are the ones where we most often check loading arrangements in advance.
What a removals job includes
A house removal is a surveyed, fixed-price job, not an hourly booking: we look at the property, count the volume, work out the access at both ends and quote one number — from £340 for a studio or one-bed, from £520 for a two-bed, and from £780 for a three-bed with a crew of three for the day. Crews carry blankets, straps and trolleys as standard and dismantle and reassemble standard beds and tables as part of the price, with goods in transit cover of £10k per load and £1m public liability in place before anything is loaded.

What changes the price on a removals job
- Volume, not distance, sets a removal price. A cluttered two-bed with a full loft and garage can be a bigger job than a tidy three-bed, which is why we survey rather than price from bedroom count.
- Access is the second half. No lift above the third floor, a permit-only street, a long carry from the nearest legal stopping point or a lift that must be booked with a building manager all add crew hours — we would rather find that at survey than at 8am on moving day.
- Completion-day timing is outside anyone's control. Keys held up by a solicitor happen; we plan a realistic start, and the honest answer is that the crew can only load once you can hand over access.
- Parking, congestion charge and ULEZ where genuinely incurred are itemised at cost and never marked up. They are the only pass-through on a removal.
- Pianos, safes, large aquariums and full-size gym equipment are specialist lifts quoted separately, and we do not carry fuel, gas bottles or hazardous goods in a stacked load.

How quickly can you book removals in Oxford?

What is covered if something is damaged?
Goods in transit cover of £10k per load applies to everything in the van, with £1m public liability alongside it. Anything already damaged is noted with you before loading, and anything raised within 24 hours is put right rather than argued about.
Can the move run over two days?
Yes, and for larger homes it is often the sensible plan — pack and load non-essentials on day one, complete on day two. It is quoted as one job, with the overnight load staying secured in the van or in storage as agreed in writing.
