What we can show you for Cookham

  • Cookham access and housing notes

SL6 housing stock and loading reality, written for Cookham rather than the county.

Packing Services in Cookham: what actually matters here

A Royal Borough Thames-side village north of Maidenhead, in the Bisham and Cookham ward, spread across Cookham village, Cookham Rise and Cookham Dean.

The housing stock is Period cottages and larger detached houses in the village and on Cookham Dean, interwar and post-war housing at Cookham Rise, and riverside properties along the Thames, which decides the tools, protection and crew size we bring to a packing services job.

The village and Dean roads are narrow, with high hedges, blind bends and no legal verge parking, and roads here have been closed at short notice for works and river conditions. Cookham Moor and the riverside are low-lying Thames land. Royal Borough residents use Stafferton Way SL6 1AY with an Advantage Card or ID, and vans, pickups and trailers need a permit applied for before each visit.

From Cookham village, Cookham Rise, Cookham Dean, Cookham Moor and Bisham through to the SL6 edges of Cookham, one price list applies — the address decides the access, not the rate.

As a smaller town built around Cookham Moor and the Stanley Spencer Gallery, Cookham has a mix of approach roads and loading points, so we confirm parking and carry distance when you book rather than assuming.

What a packing services job includes

Packing is priced two ways so you only buy what you need: per packer per hour — £30 for one, £55 for two, with a two-hour minimum — or as a fixed price by property size, from £180 for a studio or one-bed, £280 for a two-bed and £420 for a three-bed. Materials are charged at cost, a two-bed materials pack starts at £68, and empty cartons are collected free after the move. Unpacking at the new address is charged the same hourly way, with boxes flattened and taken away.

Materials

  • Double-wall cartons, tissue paper, bubble wrap and tape supplied and charged at cost
  • Wardrobe cartons so hanging clothes travel on the rail
  • Purpose-made cartons for pictures, mirrors, TVs and lamps
  • Mattress bags and protective covers for soft furnishings

The pack

  • Room-by-room packing with a numbered inventory as we go
  • Every carton labelled with its room and its contents, not just a room name
  • China, glass and stemware individually wrapped and packed on edge rather than stacked flat
  • Electronics packed with their cables, and screens boxed upright
  • A clearly marked essentials box kept back for the first night

Options

  • Fragile-only pack for the kitchen and glassware, from £120, when you are doing the rest yourself
  • Full pack the day before the move so loading starts on time
  • Unpacking at the new address at £30 per hour, with cartons flattened and removed
  • Free collection of empty cartons after you have finished unpacking

What changes the price on a packing services job

  • We do not pack fuel, aerosols under pressure, paint or gas bottles, and open food and plants are best moved by you in the car.
  • Packing takes longer than people expect. A studio is typically four to six hours for one packer and a family home a full day for two, which is why the fixed prices are set by property size rather than by an optimistic hour count.
  • The kitchen is the room that decides the timings — glassware, china and small appliances are slow, careful work, and it is the room most often left to the last hour by self-packers.
  • Boxes you packed yourself are still covered for transit, but we cannot verify the contents or how they were wrapped; where a fragile item matters, let us pack it and it is documented on the inventory.
  • Materials are at cost, not a profit line, so over-ordering costs you money for no benefit — we would rather bring a realistic quantity and top up than sell you a pallet of cartons.

Was able to hire a van and driver at very short notice. Great value for money. Driver went above and beyond what he should've been expected to do based on my initial description of the job required. The driver also had excellent communication skills and kept me updated at every stage. Office staff very helpful… Read in full →

The drivers were very friendly and helpful. But they arrived at our place without any of the boxes we had previously paid for and were not aware we had contracted them. The office was helpful to find a solution but the whole process was delayed in 2 hours and in the end we didnt get… Read in full →

Common questions

Cookham questions, answered.

  • How quickly can you book packing services in Cookham?

Same-week slots are standard in Cookham, with next-day often available midweek. Month-end tenancy changeovers are the busiest window across Berkshire, so book those a week or two ahead.

  • Should I pay for packing or do it myself?

Do the wardrobes and the books yourself if you have the time; get the kitchen, the glassware and anything breakable packed properly. A fragile-only pack from £120 buys most of the protection for a fraction of the full-pack price.

  • How many boxes will I need?

We estimate from the survey and bring what the property size suggests — a two-bed materials pack starts at £68 — then top up if needed. Materials are charged at cost, so you pay for what you actually use.

  • Do you take the empty boxes away?

Yes. Empty cartons are collected free after the move, and if you book unpacking they are flattened and taken away on the same visit.
