Extractor fan & hood cleaning kitchens and commercial canopies
An extractor that hums but does not pull is a filter problem nine times out of ten. We strip the filters, degrease the canopy and fan housing, and get the airflow — and the noise level — back to where it started.
- Baffle and mesh filters dip-tank soaked
- Fan housing and impeller degreased
- Grease-record photos for commercial kitchens
- Fixed price per hood, not per hour

The service
Extraction cleaning for kitchens domestic and commercial
Extractor fan cleaning covers three separate things that get lumped together: the filters that trap airborne fat, the canopy and fan housing where the residue collects once the filters are saturated, and the ducting run to the outside wall. In a home kitchen the filters and canopy are usually all it takes to restore airflow. In a commercial kitchen the grease record matters as much as the clean: insurers and fire risk assessors want dated evidence that the canopy, plenum and accessible duct have been degreased at a sensible interval, so every commercial visit finishes with photographs and a written report.

How it works
Three steps and a price that holds
Isolate and strip
Power isolated, hob protected, filters and grease trays removed and carried out to the dip tank.
Degrease the canopy and fan
Canopy interior, plenum, light housing and — where it is accessible — the impeller and fan scroll are hand-degreased.
Rebuild, test airflow
Filters refitted dry, extraction tested on each speed, and the surfaces polished. Commercial jobs get a dated photo record.
Why us
Why extraction gets left too long in practice
It fails quietly
A blocked hood still lights up and still hums. Airflow drops gradually, so the first real symptom is usually cooking smells upstairs or condensation on the windows.
Grease is a fire load
Warm fat in a canopy and duct is the single biggest fire risk in a busy kitchen, which is why commercial cover often depends on a documented cleaning interval.
Filters are cheap, motors are not
A saturated filter forces the motor to work harder against resistance. Cleaning them on schedule is the difference between a £35 visit and a new extractor.
We put the airflow back
We test extraction on each speed setting before and after, so you can tell the difference rather than take our word for it.

Detail
How often extraction needs cleaning what to expect
A home kitchen that fries or roasts most days needs the filters through a dip tank every three to four months and the canopy degreased twice a year. Households that mostly boil and bake can stretch that to annually. Commercial kitchens are governed by use rather than the calendar: heavy frying suggests quarterly canopy and duct attention, moderate cooking six-monthly, and light use annually — and whatever the interval, the dated evidence matters as much as the work. The failure pattern is always the same. Filters saturate, fat migrates into the plenum and the first metre of ducting, airflow drops, and the kitchen starts holding steam and smells. Left long enough the impeller loads up and the motor bearings go. Cleaning is cheap; replacing an extraction run is not.
Questions
Extractor fan & hood cleaning answered
A domestic cooker hood is £35 on its own, or £25 when added to an oven clean in the same visit. Island and chimney extractors start at £55 and an accessible duct run from £95. Commercial canopies are priced per linear metre from £45.
For a home kitchen that fries or roasts most days, filters every three to four months and the canopy twice a year. Lighter cooking can go annually. Commercial kitchens usually need quarterly attention on heavy frying and six-monthly on moderate use.
We clean the accessible duct run — straight sections and anywhere access panels are fitted. Long, concealed or vertical runs need specialist duct equipment, and we will tell you honestly if that is what your kitchen needs.
Yes, scheduled around service — usually overnight or on a close day. Every commercial visit finishes with dated before and after photographs and a written report for your fire risk assessment and insurer.
Often. Most noise comes from an impeller loaded with fat, which puts it out of balance and makes the motor work harder. If the bearings themselves have gone we will say so rather than charge you for a clean that will not help.
Charcoal recirculation filters cannot be washed — they are saturated or they are not. We check them, tell you the correct part for your model, and fit a replacement if you have one ready.
A standard domestic hood takes about 45 minutes, an island or chimney extractor an hour, and an accessible duct run around 90 minutes. Commercial canopies depend on length and grease loading.
Book an extraction clean
Send a photo of the hood and tell us how often the kitchen cooks. For commercial canopies, add the run length and your quiet window and we will price it per metre.
