What working in Tameside actually involves
Tameside is a string of separate mill towns rather than one settlement: Ashton-under-Lyne, Stalybridge, Dukinfield, Hyde, Denton, Droylsden, Audenshaw, Mossley and Longdendale each have their own centre and their own character, joined by the Tame valley and the tram line out to Ashton. That matters when people search for a 'local' crew — a Mossley address and a Denton address are barely twenty minutes apart but need completely different plans on the day.
The stock runs from dense Victorian terraces in Ashton, Hyde and Dukinfield through interwar semis in Denton, Droylsden and Audenshaw to stone weavers' cottages and hillside terraces in Mossley and Stalybridge. Denton's hatting history left a legacy of solid brick terraces with long rear yards; Mossley's gritstone properties come with mullioned windows, flagged floors and stairs too tight for a modern sofa, which is a straps-and-two-crews job rather than a one-van one.
Tameside Council handles bulky waste, licensing and parking. Collections are booked, chargeable and capped by item count, and recycling-centre van access requires a permit — so on a re-let deadline or a house sale, the council route is not a realistic option. We remove under our own waste carrier licence, issue the waste transfer note, and offer serviceable furniture to reuse partners before tipping anything.
Because rental demand is concentrated in Ashton, Hyde and Dukinfield, the borough has a genuine end of tenancy season without the extremes of the student belt. Landlord and agent work here is priced against an inventory — ovens, extractor filters, window reveals, carpets — and re-lets tend to be quick, so the value in a clean is turning the property in days rather than gold-plating it. Up the valley the same money is more often spent on jet washing stone, gutter clearing and the small repairs that stop damp getting a foothold on an exposed elevation.
- Parking & access
- Ashton-under-Lyne's centre is pay-and-display around the market, the interchange and Old Street, with limited loading time; Stalybridge and Mossley are steep, stone and narrow, with canal-side streets where a van blocks the road while it is loaded. Denton, Droylsden and Audenshaw are mostly free kerbside with drives on the interwar semis.
- Council & bulky waste
- Tameside Council runs a booked bulky-waste collection with a charge and an item limit, and van access to the recycling centres serving SK14–SK16 and OL6 needs a permit booked in advance. We clear under our own waste carrier licence and issue a transfer note on the day.
- Housing market
- Tameside is an affordable borough of terraces and interwar semis with a solid private rented sector in Ashton, Hyde and Dukinfield and more expensive stone property up the valley at Mossley and Stalybridge. The workload leans towards end of tenancy cleaning, clearance and value-conscious handyman work rather than premium sale preparation.

How much does a job in Tameside cost?
Every job is quoted as a fixed price in writing before anyone sets off, based on the property, its access and what is actually being cleaned, moved or cleared — not an hourly rate that grows on the day. Tameside is an affordable borough of terraces and interwar semis with a solid private rented sector in Ashton, Hyde and Dukinfield and more expensive stone property up the valley at Mossley and Stalybridge. The workload leans towards end of tenancy cleaning, clearance and value-conscious handyman work rather than premium sale preparation.
Can you park a van at my Tameside address?
Ashton-under-Lyne's centre is pay-and-display around the market, the interchange and Old Street, with limited loading time; Stalybridge and Mossley are steep, stone and narrow, with canal-side streets where a van blocks the road while it is loaded. Denton, Droylsden and Audenshaw are mostly free kerbside with drives on the interwar semis. We check the access when we quote and, where a bay suspension or a service-lift booking is needed, we arrange it in advance rather than discovering it on the morning.
What happens to the waste you take away in Tameside?
Tameside Council runs a booked bulky-waste collection with a charge and an item limit, and van access to the recycling centres serving SK14–SK16 and OL6 needs a permit booked in advance. We clear under our own waste carrier licence and issue a transfer note on the day. Reusable furniture is offered to local reuse before anything is tipped, and electricals are separated as WEEE.
