What to Have Ready Before You Submit

Send your postcode, the surfaces involved and rough sizes — photos help us price accurately. Guide prices start from £45 for steps or small areas, £70 for decking and paths, £80 for a patio, and £90 for a driveway; block-paving re-sanding, sealing and larger or heavily soiled areas are quoted individually once we've seen the details.

What Happens After You Submit

We review your surfaces and photos and confirm a fixed price with no hidden call-out fees, then offer available slots — jobs run seven days a week. On the day, the operator pre-treats moss and algae, washes at the correct pressure for the material, tidies up and rinses down the area. Most homes only need this once a year, though shaded or north-facing surfaces may benefit from a clean every six to twelve months.

The right pressure for each surface

Concrete, block paving and most natural stone take full pressure through a rotary surface cleaner, which is what gives an even finish instead of the striped look left by waving a lance about. Tarmac, older sandstone and soft brick need the pressure dropped and the nozzle kept moving, because too much force will pit the surface or strip the binder out of the tarmac.

Render, painted masonry, roof tiles and timber decking are soft-washed instead: a low-pressure application of a biocide that kills the algae and lichen at the root, then rinsed. It looks slower on the day but it stays clean far longer than blasting, and it will not force water behind the render or lift the grain on decking.

Block paving, jointing sand and sealing

Washing block paving lifts the jointing sand out along with the weeds and moss — that is unavoidable, and any operator who says otherwise is not cleaning it properly. Joints should be refilled once the surface has dried, normally with kiln-dried sand brushed in, or with a polymeric jointing compound if you want to slow weed regrowth. Ask for re-sanding when you request the quote so it is priced in rather than added afterwards.

Sealing is optional and is a separate job. It needs a properly dry surface, so it is usually booked a day or two after the wash in settled weather. It makes future cleaning easier and holds the jointing sand in place, but it also darkens the colour of most blocks, so it is worth seeing a test patch before committing the whole driveway.

Access, water, drainage and timing

We need an outdoor tap and a standard power socket. If neither is available, say so on the form — a bowser or generator can be arranged, but it changes the price. You do not need to be home as long as the area is reachable and any side gate is unlocked; a small driveway is often done inside two hours.

Move cars, bins, planters and garden furniture off the area beforehand, and close nearby windows: rotary cleaning throws a fine mist. Run-off carries loosened silt and moss, so we direct it to a gully rather than onto a neighbour's boundary or a lawn. Wet weather is not usually a reason to reschedule — the surface is getting soaked regardless — but hard frost is, because standing water freezes as we work.
