Waste Disposal across Essex
Essex has three separate household waste recycling systems running side by side — Essex County Council's bookable centres, and the two unitary schemes run independently by Southend-on-Sea and Thurrock — so which one applies depends entirely on the address, not just the postcode area.

Licensed disposal with a paper trail
Every load moves under our waste carrier licence with a waste transfer note available on request.

Really pleased to have used Hello Services. We had a shed we needed assembling, and Adam made sure it went up smoothly. It was such a relief to see him assess the base, judge what needed doing, and then at the end of the day a brand new shed was standing strong and tall in… Read in full →
Hannah and her friend were friendly and thoughtful. They were very professional and hard working. They also turned a junk room into a nice bedroom. I cannot thank them or praise them enough.

Waste Disposal in Essex
Waste disposal in Essex is more fragmented than the county name suggests. Essex County Council operates the bookable household waste recycling centres used by most of the county's towns, but Southend-on-Sea and Thurrock are unitary authorities that run entirely separate recycling centre schemes with their own booking systems and accepted-item lists. A resident moving between, say, Rayleigh (Essex CC) and Southend, or Basildon and Grays in Thurrock, is dealing with two different systems even though the postcodes sit next to each other — and as a licensed carrier we route each collection to whichever facility is actually correct for that address.
River-adjacent Thurrock adds one more variable: jobs that cross the Thames via the Dartford Crossing pick up the crossing charge, which we pass on at cost rather than build invisibly into the quote. Inland, the main factor is property type rather than council boundary — walk-up flats in Southend and Harlow and terraced houses in Colchester's Dutch Quarter need the crew to carry items further to the van than a Basildon or Chelmsford house with off-street parking, so we ask about access at booking to size the job correctly.

Waste Disposal in Essex — your questions.
Do Essex, Southend and Thurrock use the same tip?
No — Essex County Council runs its own bookable recycling centres, while Southend-on-Sea and Thurrock are unitary authorities with separate schemes; we use whichever is correct for your address.
Can you collect a single item?
Yes, a minimum collection covers a single item like a mattress or a fridge, right up to a full van load.
Does collecting from Thurrock cost extra?
Only if the job actually crosses the Thames via the Dartford Crossing — that charge is passed on at cost, nothing else changes.
Do you take fridges and other appliances?
Yes, WEEE items like fridges and freezers are collected and disposed of compliantly.
How quickly can you collect?
Same-week collection is available across most of the county; exact timing depends on the load size and your area.
Will I get proof the waste was disposed of legally?
Yes, a waste transfer note is available on request for every collection.
