Cleaning guides

What a professional clean actually includes, what it costs in the UK, and when to book one instead of doing it yourself.

Cleaning guides — Hello Services team at work

Overview

Most cleaning questions come down to three things: what is included, how long it takes, and whether the price you were quoted is fair. This desk answers all three with UK numbers rather than vague ranges, drawing on the jobs our cleaning teams run week in, week out.

You'll find room-by-room breakdowns, the difference between a regular visit and a one-off deep clean, and honest guidance on the jobs worth paying for — ovens, carpets, extractor hoods and post-build dust — versus the ones a good weekly routine keeps on top of.

What you'll find here

  • Deep clean vs regular clean: scope, time on site and price
  • Oven, hob and extractor cleaning — what degreasing really involves
  • Carpet and upholstery: hot-water extraction, drying times and stain limits
  • After-builders dust: the three-pass method and why one pass never works
  • How often each job needs repeating in a typical UK home

Cleaning questions

Frequently asked questions.

  • How much does a professional clean cost in the UK?

Regular domestic cleaning is charged hourly (from £18/hr with Hello Services). One-off work — deep cleans, ovens, carpets, after-builders — is quoted as a fixed 'from' price based on property size and condition, so you know the figure before anyone arrives.

  • What is the difference between a deep clean and a regular clean?

A regular clean maintains a home that is already in good order: surfaces, floors, bathrooms and kitchen. A deep clean resets it — inside appliances, behind and under furniture, limescale removal, skirtings, door frames, extractor grease and window interiors. Deep cleans typically take two to three times as long.

  • How often should I book a deep clean?

Once or twice a year for most homes, plus a one-off after building work, before a property sale, or at the end of a tenancy. Households with pets, smokers or heavy cooking usually benefit from a six-monthly cycle.

  • Do cleaners bring their own products and equipment?

Yes. Our teams arrive with commercial-grade products, machines and cloths. If you prefer specific eco or fragrance-free products, or need particular products used on a delicate surface, say so when booking and we'll match them.
